1-tC TlO] is ZEPHILSCO '80 Zephyrhills High School Zephyrhills, Florida 2 Now is a time to reflect On memories of the past But living each day to the fullest As time passes so fast. 3 ■ 4 6 A time for being Kind and gentle A time for being Sentimental. 10 A time to create And to express Struggling to become My very best. A time for laughter A time for sorrow Alas! How quickly today Becomes tomorrow. 13 DEDICATION It has been said that the final test of a leader is that he leaves behind him in others the conviction and the will to carry on ... The genius of a good leader is to leave behind him a situation which common sense, without the grace of genius, can deal with successfully. We here at ZHS feel that our own Mr. Stanley B. Kendrick measures up to this test; for under his leadership and guidance, we are inspired to reflect his confidence in our ability to surmount the obstacles that may face us in the future. 15 17 SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Gayle Roman, Senior Class President Maria Spoto, Vice-President Mary Anne Hope, Secretary Todd Forrester, Treasurer Our Senior year has been a time of reflecting on the good times we have had ... and the challenging days ahead ... Not only are we starting our future but we are the leaders in this new decade for those who follow in our path. We are a class with great talent, skill, and per- sonality. We share a common hope in reaching our desire to succeed in our goals. Let’s stop a moment and remember all the activities we've participated in and the fun and excitement it has rewarded us with: Our award winning float, homecoming activities, spirit, the fire alarm during the homecoming dance, the lunchline, Grad-Nite, Prom, and after Graduation, our thoughts are — There ain’t no stopping us now! In these reflections, they bind us together as the great and mighty class of 1980. 18 Craig M Adams 2 15 62 Track 9, Media Club, Science Club, F.F.A. Were all these years really nec- essary? Ron Zachman came to our school new and alone, but it didn't take him long to make friends. His warm smile always showed him to be friendly to everyone. He once said to me, I am glad to have all of you kids around me. But he will never know that he meant more to us than anyone else around. It took sixteen years for this special person to find his way into our lives. We all knew who he was. Ron was new, but he was not alone. He had all of us. Lisa Caldwell 1. P E is Disco Dancin'. 2. Agape is a club at school that comes together to show the highest love that could ever be, God's Love! We are a group of young people from all different types of churches that come together as God's people. Every morning we have fellowship by reading the Bible and prayer; every three weeks we have club meetings to share God's word and to discuss different types of prob- lems we face as young Christians. We are persuaded that a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the only real happiness that a teenager could have in these trying times. We come together to share the love that is found in John 3:16. 123 FFA Row 1: Randy Maggard. Mike Massey. Dan Hinsz. Steve Stewart. Randy Spivey. Gene Case. Tony Karppe. Russell Natali. Joel Padot. Boys' and Girls' State instills into its representatives a sense of self-esteem and also knowledge of our country's political processes. The experience that is gained within the one week at Amer- ican Legions Boys' and Girls' State is truly invaluable. 1. Sharon Hasting 2 Lance Smith. 3. Larry Reed 4 Lenny Gerkne 5. Raymond Lacour 220 Today is ours, each hour, minute. Has tremendous challenge in it. 222 Yesterday is gone; Tomorrow may never come; all we have is now. 223 224 Our interest is in the future, because we are going to spend the rest of our lives there. 22J We are not afraid of tomorrow, for we have seen yesterday, and love today. 228 The future is for those who prepare for it... We are the future. Yet the timeless in you is aware of life's timelessness. And knows that yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream. EDITOR'S NOTE Looking back on the 1980 Zephilsco, I can remember it starting out as an exciting dream and it has now become a fantastic reality. The hours of hard work and planning that went into this book were many and I would like to thank all of those people that helped make our 1980 Zephilsco possible. First and foremost, Mrs. Gail Reynolds. Thank you is not enough for all you have done for us. Your criticism and guidance helped mold one of the best Zephilsco’s Zephyrhills High School has ever seen. The staff and myself thank you for all your help and concern. Behind the scenes I would like to thank Bryn-Alan photographers and Taylor Publishers for their reliability. We can always depend on you. Last but not least, I would like to thank each member of the staff. To Gayle, thanks for keeping me going when I felt like quitting, but more importantly, thanks for keeping Joe out of my hair at least part of the time. To Janice, what would I have done without you? To Karen, thanks for hanging in there even when I didn’t. To Michele, thanks for the one layout you did all year long. To Susan, thanks for tearing yourself away from the boys long enough to meet deadlines. To Kim, thanks for heading up the entire Junior Staff. To Sandy, thanks for having the sense to communicate with me. To Mary, thanks for yell- ing at Joe even though it’s my job. To Nancy, thanks for setting the example of the perfect staff member. To Joe, thanks for coming down to earth at least long enough to get half your layouts done. To Kathy, thanks for filling in at the last moment. To Tim and Lee thanks for not doing one layout all year long and for hiding the film away until the last minute. I love you all really. In all seriousness, thank you all very much, I couldn't have done it without you. Ronda Ferguson Editor-in-chief 1980 Zephilsco 232
