CLASS HISTORY The future looked bright for 16 timid and bashful boys and girls who, back in 1944. took their first steps down the hall of Zephyrhills School. They were: Melba Adkinson, Edith Austin, Vonceil Clardy, Ellen Heath, Ruby Hill, Olivee Jones, Nancy Miller, Nell Locke, Betty Newsome, Mary Sawtelle, Curtis Craig, Nathan Geiger, Roger Lane, James Jones, Robert Nelson, and Lamarr Massey. We began our education under the leadership of Mrs. Helen Hamilton. Believe it or not this bunch of little wiggle-worms made it on to the second grade where we were joined by Alex Allen. This year we had two teachers, Mrs. Austin and Mrs. Price. In the third grade we were joined by five new pupils. They were: Yvonne Cooper, Connie Dayton, Gail Smith, Larry Burnette and James Wasner. Again it took two teachers to hold us in the right path. Mrs. Hart and Miss Rawlinson had this great honor. Well, the fourth grade passed without too much interruption. Mrs. Ellmaker and Mrs. Melius had their hands full with us though. Linda Williams, Margaret Seppanen and James Dennison joined our happy little, or should I say big family. On to the fifth grade where Pearl Rowe was our only addition. This was the year we had to learn the 48 states and their capitals. We finally did this under the leader- ship of Mrs. Hart and Mrs. Zarth. Nancy Lee, Carol Sibley, James Jarrett and Richard Mattingly came to join us in our last year in grammar school. Teachers this year were Mrs. Price and Mrs. Trottman. Well at last we were in Junior High. Mrs. Kay lor and Mrs. Atwater were our home room teachers. Something sure must have gotten into us because in the eighth grade it took three teachers for us. Janet Freed, and Carol Hughes, who joined us, might have been the cause of this but it's doubtful. Our sponsors were Mrs. Zarth, Mrs. Parantha and Mrs. Matthews. We really thought we were something now. High enough in school to have a name, Freshman. Natescha Betterman and Kay Crawford came to help us celebrate. Mrs. Anderson and Mr. Osborne were our sponsors. By the time we reached our Sophomore year we were fairly familiar with High School. Edith Overton, Charles Whittington and Donald Whitworth decided to come and graduate with us, which was a very good idea. This year Mrs. Gill and Miss Evans sponsored us. Now we were Juniors. This was the big day. Some events that took place were our class play Finders Creepers,” and our Junior-Senior Prom, the best ever, which went under the title of Moonlight and Roses. This also was the year we ordered our Class Rings. My, what a day that was. Sarah Peck, Edward Courtney and Robert Howell, better known as Bob , came to join in the fun and excitement. Mr. Webb was our only sponsor this year. We finally quieted down enough that one teacher could handle us. The eventful time was here at last. Our Senior year started off with a bang and was over before we knew it. Days were full of Annual Staff meetings, play practices, concession stand at the football games, ordering cap and gowns and just about every- thing you can think of. We were joined by Thomas Carte, Wendell Collins, and Le Roy Lincoln who helped us through our last year in High School. Before we knew it Class Night, Baccalaureate and then Commencement when we walked the aisle of the Home Theater, were looking us in the face. Yes, our school days are over and our Annual, Zephilsco 1956, is our book of memories to you of the best class ever to graduate. Although our class will go from one extreme to another, we will never forget our day and our teachers back at Beloved Z. H. S.
