This was the long awaited ''first day of school. .Their names were Joe Paul Womack. Jeanne McGavem. Lois Greene. Carl Heufel, Jimmy Kerr. Eddie White. Jackie Clardy. Julia Belle Prachar. David Sullivan and J. D. Locke. This angelic little band was enxering the first grade and was initiated into school life by Mrs. Helen Hamilton. The first year passed quickly and by the time they were ready for Mrs. Blitch and the Second Grade they were ready and rarin' to go! They rared a little too much and Carl Heufel took off for Dade City. They played and fought together during this year and then in the third grade were joined by Mrs. Sarah Ward and Caroline Jones, from Griffin. Georgia. Kathryn Kersey and Harold Cherry, noticing the fun these little eager beavers were having decided to wait for them and join in the excitement. Of course, the little con- gregation of urchins were sorry to see Mrs. Ward leave during the year, but were happy to welcome Mrs. Turner. Then it was time to start their fourth year of schooling under the direction of Mrs. Annice Fernandez. J. W. Jones envying Harold's and Kathryn's new found joy decided to follow their example. In the Fifth Grade with Mrs. Emma Plank as guardian, the little cherubs were joined by John Forbis from Nashville. Tennessee, Wilmer Wetherington from White Springs. Carl Heufel from distant. Dade City and Bob Fullwood from Jacksonville. Bob decided the renegades were too much for him and left to return later. Fate was against these little desperadoes, when, while in the Sixth Grade under the guidance of Mrs. Willie Mae Ellsmaker, Bill McIntosh wandered in from Mt. Clemens. Michigan. This year their intense school spirit got the best of them and from their over flowing treasury purchased a cord to pull the curtain on the stage in the auditorium. They also became amateur horticulturists and planted some flower bulbs outside the classroom window which they quickly trampled to death. In the seventh grade the class was tremendous and was pushed from pillar to post. It started in the main build- ing but then was moved to what was known astheCrystal Springs Building which was later mysteriously burned. ... some say it was struck by lightning. At this time the wandering nomads were joined by Skip Riley from East Mauch Chunk, Pennsylvania but they soon ran him off. Bob Fullwood bolstered up his courage and returned to ZHS followed by an invasion by Shirley Hallbrook, from Lakeland. John Wasner from Miami, Anne Hosmer from Massachusetts, Larry Rickard from Jeffersonville, Indiana, Shirley Leeson from far off Crystal Springs, (she came with the school bldg.) and last but not least, by Barbara Smith from Norfolk. Va., who made an unusual, to say the least, entrance. After this, even the Crystal Springs Bldg, proved to be too small for these juvenile delinquents and they were moved to the abandoned Air Port Barracks outside the city limits. This, they quickly reduced to shambles, stripping tar paper from the sides of the buildings and flooding the bathrooms daily by turning on the innumerable faucets. When they got out to the air port Mrs. Ellmaker called in the reinforcements namely, Miss Christine Krusen. At this time the sheep were separated from the goats and they proceeded happily until they were reunited in the Eighth Grade. This year they gained the infamous reputation as the most mischievous group ever to hit Zephyrhills or sur- rounding territory until Mr. Parker arrived with his Board of Education. This board was at least two inches thick and quickly quieted them down to a dull roar. Wilmer Wetherington decided to make an exit at this point. This was the year the class painted all their bulletin boards pink! Then all the boys' hearts were set atwitter when Joan Johnson arrived from Winona. Minnesota. At last they were changing classes and could scatter their charms to more than one teacher in a day! Soon after, the class became Freshmen and Mrs. Constance Kaylor was the lucky one to become their sponsor. The class, very much encouraged by their earlier attempt at painting, decided to go at it in a big way by painting their home room green. Also painted, were portions of the doors, windows and floor, strictly by accident, of course. Then Pat Edwards bounced in from Windsor, Ontario, followed by Franklin Canaday from St. George, Georgia. A little later. Wilmer Wetherington decided he really missed his partners in crime and returned. The class became businessmen and held Bake Sales to fill their treasury so they could squander their money at the end of the year on a humdinger of a class party. After partially graying Mrs. Kaylor's hair they set upon Mr. Bill Moore, in their Sophomore year. This year the class kept busy doing nothing. They had one scheme they turned out reasonably well, sponsoring Hill Billy Singers at the High School auditorium. At this time Skip Riley again rejoined the little society followed by Lamar Herndon from Miami. Then Crash Bam Alagazaam.'' Conrad. Sam Morgan arrived from Jacksonville. In the class's Junior year it was decided that it again needed a strong arm to gently guide it, namely, Mr. Happy Clark an ex-gridiron star. They then again turned business-minded, in a big way this time, by sponsoring football dances, which proved quite successful, basketball concessions and the mammothly successful Junior Class Play. Clementine, the story of a teenage tomboy who turns herself into a refined young lady over- night. About this time, there was another invasion by Barbara Aldacosta, from Wauchula, Marjorie Wilkinson from Clearwater, and Flora Barrentine from Cottondale. Flora felt she was in the wrong pew and left to rejoin them at the beginning of their Senior year. During their Junior year they produced the biggest and bestest Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet ever to hit Zephyrhills! The theme was Oriental and the American Legion Hall and Zephyr Hotel Dining Room were decorated with Oriental lanterns, stone wall crepe paper, and other Oriental trimmings. After this, believe it or not, they were finally high and mighty Seniors. It was a tough fight but we won, Maw! They were guided in their Senior year by even-tempered, soft-spoken, Coach Johnny Clements. With Miss Matilda Clement directing, they produced their Senior Class Play which was acclaimed the best high school play ever! The name was The Crazy Smith Family, the humorous story of atypical American family and their son who was a football star sought after by colleges. The colleges sent attractive vamps to lure him to their college but he finally ended up going to a local college with his old girl friend. There was, of course,Goon Day and the impressive Sunrise Services at Bok Tower on Easter Morning. The biggest undertaking was this yearbook, the Zephilsco of '52. Finally, much sooner than the class had anticipated, after impressive graduation ceremonies they were alumni of good ole Z.H.S. And they all lived happily ever after. The End. class prophecy The Senior Class of 1952, after a spectacular graduation at the Home Theatre, embarked from the Trillion Dollar Pier at Zephyr Lake on a week-end cruise to Cuba. As usual, McIntosh was late and missed the boat! Much to the horror of all, the boat strangely disappeared in a freak strom and Billy decided to go into seclusion as a lighthouse keeper on a barren rock in the middle of Zephyr Lake, to keep a perpetual vigil for his lost classmates. Unknown to Billy. Captain Clements and his crew were merely blown off their course in mammoth Zephyr Lake and ended up in the great metropolis . . . New York City. After gazing at the huge sky-scrapers, the adventure seekers decided to combine their talents and to erect a gigantic edifice of their own--bigger and better than any ever attempted--1001 stories in all. After its completion, they dubbed it the Zephyrsonia, set up their offices in it, and began to make their fortunes. Perhaps at this time we should say that some friends and relatives joined the members of the class in the big city. Such was the case of Mrs. Clements and family. Coach never felt he could be separated from the class. Twenty years later, the class of ’52 returned to Zephyrhills for a reunion and a swig of its sparkling, pure, water. Upon returning, they heard of McIntosh and his 20 year vigil and decided to pay him a surprise visit and relay to him the story of their success. Now, after twenty years of fame and success, we meet the world famous celebrities as one by one they ascend the winding, iron stairs of the fog engulfed lighthouse. First to greet the bearded hermit is yodeling Barbara Aldacosta who has long since replaced Daisy Mae. Then Flora Barrentine appears. She's now head of the YWCA and was voted the most outstanding girls' coach. After Flora, dashing Frankie” Canaday arrives. He is now a star of stage, screen and radio. His title is Frankie the Swooner. Switch that train, blow that whistle, ring that bell. That's the cry of Jack Clardy, now head dispatcher of all trains leaving New York City, Incidentally, Grand Central and Penn Stations have both been moved to the Zephyrsonia and are located in the third basement. Prune Packer Edwards as she is now known, trips up the stairs. Patsy's Prune Packery is located on the 992 floor of the Zephyrsonia. We hear she only employs Polar Eskimos. Dashing up the stairs, John Forbis arrives, yelling, Stop the presses, I’ve got a scoop! He's now editor of the NEW YORK MOON. Bob Fullwood makes a grand entrance. He's replaced Leo da Lip as manager of the Giants after a spectacular playing career. Well, here comes Lois! She's really cookin’ on all four burners too. ” Yes. she's head cook in the Zephyr Room atop the beautiful Zephyrsonia. You should try her Greene Salad. It's made with collards, mustard greens and dandelion greens, blended with castor oil. What did you say your opinion was on the idea of putting ribbons on the antennae of the Tsi-Tsi fly? Goodnight! It's Shirley Halbrook and she's still at the job of inquiring reporter, now with John's paper, the NEW YORK MOON. I suggest building the top of this lighthouse at the bottom so as to eliminate all this unnecessary climbing of stairs. It's inefficient! Well, it’s LeMar Herndon and he's an efficiency expert! What’s that peculiar odor! Oh! It's Carl Heufel and he's now head of the stock yards which incidentally have been moved to the Zephyrsonia. They are in the tenth basement and all the smell has been pumped back to Chicago, so very few know the stock yards were ever moved! If your husband seems to avoid you, I would suggest discontinuing your diet of Garlic Oil and Onion Extract, which you say you are taking to regain your original beauty. Some men are against present day beauty prepara- tions. This is the advice of Anne Hosmer, now top lovelorn columnist. Her advice is based on experience. Remember, she was voted the most flirtatious girl in the Senior Class! Wow! Here's Joan Johnson who has been Miss America for the past 20 years. In her spare time she does interior decorating and decorated the whole interior of the Zephyrsonia. J. W. Jones pops up next and greets the long time exile. J. W. has really made a name for himself in the theatrical world as a designer of stage props and as a stage manager. Bang! Bang! Hi O Golddust! Who should come galloping in but Caroline Jones! She's now a world re- nowned Horse Opera writer. Her latest is JUMP ALONG GASSIDY'S LAST ROUNDUP!! Dit a dit, dit a dit dit. Well, it's Jimmy Kerr and he's now head of the Eastern Union which for years was the rival of a small company. The offices are on the 1000 floor of the Z. Building. Sonny has really gone up in the world. Kathryn Kersey struts up the stairs behind Jim. She s head majorette for Band of America which, by the way, is directed by Jeanne McGavem. Paul LaValle just gave up after hearing Jeanne at Concert Band way back in '52. Shirley Leeson skates up the stairs and wheels into visit the ragged ascetic. She is proprietress of a roller skating rink located on the 91st floor. The wheels on her skates are square so one can skate and square dance at the same time. J. D. Locke flies up to the top of the moss covered tower in his AutomoDOVE. a combination automobile and air plane, which he designed. The factory is located on floors 725 through 750. The designer of the Zephyrsonia now appears, and is none other than the world-famed engineer, Conrad Morgan. Sam designed the famed Silver Door Bridge. Ten-Shun is bellowed by General Julia Belle Prachar. now head of the WAFS. The WAES fly the AutomoDOVE invented by Jeddie. This contraption, by the way, is powered by a rubber band. You are now listening to the PACE network, owned and operated by Bob Pace. This is your sportscaster, Skip' Riley, bringing you news, views, and sports hi-lights of the day. That's the voice of Arthur Riley who long ago became ace sport's announcer replacing Bill Stern. Leaning on his cue stick is Larry Rickard, proprietor of Larry's Recreation Hall, located in the first basement of the Zephyr Building. Ya! Nien! is exclaimed by Bab-O Smith who speaks only German; two words to be exact. She has finally realized her ambition and isbookkeeper and receptionist for a dentist. Stick 'um up, you'reunder arrest! Ohhh ! It's John Wasner and David Sullivan co-heads of the Police force for the Windy Building. Dragging a saw and treacherous looking knife, Wilmer Wetherington ascends the stairs. Wilmer is head of Legor and Swift. Marji” (Marjorie Wilkinson) makes an unusual entrance as she ascends the stairs smudged with paint and dragging her brushes behind her. Marji” is now a commercial artist and doubles for My Friend Trma.'' Putting up the stairs. Putt, Paul Womack arrives dragging his trusty power mower behind him. He's now head of a power mower company which manufactures grass cutters powered by a new and effective fuel, vinegar and baking soda. The mowers are also equipped with the famous Putt whistle. Eddie White whizzes up the stairs in his famous, shocking pink hot rod and comes to a screeching halt. He's an ace hot rod driver and has trophies galore. Last but not least Coach Clements slowly drags himself up the stairs. After being chairman of the board of Trustees of the Zephyrsonia and consultant for the petty problems of the members of the graduating class of '52, lo the 21 years, he is now beginning to show the strain of the many years of trying to control his students and their many wild ideas. last will and testament We, the Senior Class of 1952 of Zephyrhills High School, being of sound mind, memory, and body do make, publish, and declare this to be our last will and testament: To our Alma Mater, we leave vivid memories of the Class of '52 and this Zephilsco. Through Miss Britton's efforts a dressing room and shower; have been constructed. Her classes learn the fundamentals and rules of the various sports, which include field hockey, soccer, paddle tennis, badminton, and MISS BRITTON volleyball, plus the old standbys, basketball and softball. Miss Britton constant ly stresses sportsmanship and fair play and emphasizes the fact that the way the game is played is more im- portant than the outcome. We definitely feel ZHS is fortunate to have Miss Britton as its Girls' Athletic Coach. C±jf' OoUTH' f y (V y
