Dr. Paul Plath District Superintendent Being a school board member, elected by the voters to direct the operations of a school district, has been described as one of the most thankless positions in government. While putting in hun- dreds of hours, they receive no monetary compensation: only the satisfaction of helping to provide the quality education of the Yuma Union High School District. Presently serving on the board are Mrs. Maureen Keegan Cpresi- dentj, Dr. Robert Cannel Qclerky and members George Biltz, Mrs. Patt Holland and Ed Hansberger. Overseeing the day-to-day operations for the past 'IO years has been Superintendent Dr. Paul Plath, who this spring submitted his resignation effective the end of the school year. The district office and others in the educational community were saddened this year as longtime staff member Mrs. Florence Birming- ham passed away after a short illness. Mrs. Birminghan was secre- tary to the Superintendent and the Board. Her pleasant smile will be missed by all who knew and were touched by her. .Mrs. 'Maggie Gard, who began the year as secretary to Yuma High Principal Dr. Dick Slinker, was appointed to the district position at the first of this year.
