The Year Begins With Football When interviewed about this year's football season, Coach Mitchell had this to say, The season was disappointing in two regards: we were hindered by in- juries from the first practice to the last game and we were never able to improve to what the players full capacities were. As for the Yuma-Brawley game, we were able to accomplish things that hadn't been done by the YHS football team in the past three or four years. We were still not able to win however. But the Brawley and Casa Grande games proved that the team could be competi- tive against schools their own size. We're sorry that the Mesa game was the last game of the year because we felt many of the seniors realized, during this game, they were capable of total effort and there is such a thing as mind over matter. Coach Mitchell went on to say, We're sorry to lose this years seniors and are indebted to them because we feel they've established an attitude and sense of dedication that should lead the sopho- mores and juniors to the success of win- ning. The co- captains were Dwain Dees and Bobby Estupinian. Pat Mitchell was selected as the Most Valuable Player and chosen as the Most Dedicated Player was Mike Walters. Junior Major was the team leader and the most improved player was Ron Frandsen. Jim Williamson was se- lected as the Most Outstanding Junior Player. In conclusion, Coach Mitchell had this to say, We honestly feel that any success that will be realized by the YHS football team in the next two years will be the result of the dedication and efforts of Tommy Achen, Dean Cain, Dwain Dees, Bob Estupinian, Ron Frandsen, Garth Gregston, Junior Major, Pat Mitchell, Ira Murphy and Mike Walters during their four years at YHS.
