The governing of the student body is handled by Student Council. These students are elected by their fellow students to serve terms of one school year and meet each day to map out plans for the school. The Student Council attempts to carry out the ad- ministration's policies in the school and to bring the administration and the students closer together. They co-ordinate the activities of the various organizations on campus so there will not be any conflicts. The Haunting of Hill House by F. Sixth Avenue was widened and the extra space used for diagonal parking. During the fall months every- one suffered through clouds of dust, the noise of loud street machinery, and parking three blocks from school. However, most would now agree that it was worth it. With the new parking lot and the refrigeration unit, Yuma High improved a great deal during 1966. .,r-www: , X .. Miss White Refires Practically an expert on the uses of audio-visual materials, Miss Miss White listens to questions from students in her 206 class. White loads the tape recorder for use in her classroo Miss Paloma White, who came to Yuma High School in 1935, retires this year after 31 years of service. An extremely active and creative person, Miss White utilizes a variety of classroom techniques to h her students find learning more enjoyable. Miss White's primary subject is English but she also teach Latin. According to one Latin student, Miss White brings Julius Caesar and all those guys right to life when she talks about them. In addition to her regular teaching duties, Miss White sponsors the Junior Classical League here at Y. H. S. and is the official sponsor of the state.JCL. For around 15 years, Miss White has also sponsored Girl's League. Miss White's retirement will be a great loss to Yuma High and students and faculty alike will miss in the coming years. Acknowledgements I I I Laura Davis-Editor-in-Chief The El Saguaro is a pictorial history of Yuma High School. Its publication requires the assistance and coopera- tion of practically everyone associated with the school. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those, in- cluding the student body, the faculty, and the administrative staff, for their efforts in helping to complete this 1966 edition. I extend a special thanks to JAMES HILL who photographed most of the pictures recorded here. Thanks also to the YUMA DAILY SUN for its large picture contribution. Yuma businessmen who bought advertising space in the El Saguaro also deserve our gratitude. Without their help the publication of this yearbook would have been a financial impossibility. In addition to the above, I would like to thank Connie Ross, a junior, for the cover design and for the designs found throughout the book. My own personal gratitude, I extend to the other members of the yearbook staff and to our advisor Mrs. Cooper for their long hours, hard work, and fine cooperation. I hope that ou find many hog of enjoyment browsing through this record of 1966 at Yuma High School. i up li aa Senior Index CECILIA ABRIL GL, 103 DAVID ABRIL AMS, 176 THERESE JANINE ADES Drama, Quill and Scroll, Anchor, N.
