Board, Superintendent, BOARD OF EDUCATION From left: Robert Consaul, Member: Helene T. Bennett, President: Steve R. Blake, Member: Robert J. Moody, Clerk: Wilson Roach, Memberg Theo Beach, Member-elect. The six members of the Board of Education are elected representatives of the district. They serve with- out pay and meet the first and third Tuesdays of every month. The President of the Board is Mrs. Helene Bennett. The board has the power to expel any pupil for misconduct, and exclude any book or publication that they feel show partisanship. The board also has the right to visit every school in the district and carefully examine its management, conditions, and its needs. By a majority vote of the board, they can permit a superintendent, principal, or their representative to travel for a school purpose, and by a unanimous vote they will allow a board member to travel for the school. The board also hires all employees of the schools. After the annual election and qualification of new members, the board may fix the salaries of the teachers, principals, janitors, attendance officers, school physician, nurses, and other employees. The board also authorizes leaves of absence for administrative or teaching personnel when it deems such leaves of absence to be reasonable and for good cause. All purchasing of school fumiture, apparatus, equipment, library books, and supplies for the use of the schools, must be approved by the board members.

Administration and Faculty Teachers and Administrators are traditions in themselves. They are the backbone of the school, devoted to helping students both aca- demically and socially. Teachers work not only in the classroom, but they sponsor dances, and clubs, help plan assemblies, and oversee such day-to-day things as the lunch lines. The governing body of the school also works closely with the students and the faculty. Bill Manes, principal, and Henry Martinez, vice- principal, are well acquainted with the needs of the school. Presiding over the school board for the first time this year is superintendent, Willard Ca- node. The duties of the school board include selecting teachers and balancing the school budgets. Other staff members are, Clarence Hutchison, business manager, Tom Clarkin, public relations director, and George Biltz, vice-principal. Also librarians, Lorene Oslen, and Edith Nash, nurse, Freia Kettunen, and bookstore manager, Lois Beeler assist students daily . Many more people work behind the scenes for Yuma High. They include bus drivers, maintenance men, secretaries, and cafeteria workers.
