611155 M to y and Praplzecy MOTTO: Inches make a Mile COLORS: Blue and Silver FLOWER: White Carnation President ---- - - -GLEN POWELL Vice President - - - - DALE VAN HORN Secretary ---- - - -DICK STALLINGS Treasurer ----- - - LEON MEKELBURG Student Council - - - - SHIRLEY PARRISH Fifty bright and energetic freshmen entered Y,U. H.S, in the fall of '49, After erasing all the walls, we calmed down somewhat and got to business. Officers were: Ruth Trute, President, Glen Powell, Vice President, Dick Dedrick, Secretary, and Duane Robertson, Student Council Representative. We were ready and rearin' to go our Sophomore year, The Echo Valley boys formed their band that year and made a big hit, We chose as officers: Dick Stallings, President, Glen Powell, Vice President, David Bradley, Secretary, Shirley Parrish, Treasurer, and Clara Hillman, Student Council Representative. As Juniors we considered ourselves quite grown up, Our class play was 'Meet Me in St. Louis' which was at least a financial success, Our prom theme was Stardust and was the biggest event of the year. Our leaders were: Leon Mekelburg, President, Glen Powell, Vice President, Ruth Trute, Secretary, Phyllis Morrison, Treasurer, and Roger Herman, Student Council Representative. We finally achieved our goal of becoming Seniors and what is to come we know not, but we will always cherish the memories of Good Old Yuma High. As I sit here gazing into my crystal ball, I am wondering what is ahead for the class of '53, Aha!! What is this I see? Behold! It is now many years hence. Carolyn Beethe is giving lectures to fellow old maids on Why Women are Superior to Men. Dale and Doyle Beverly have just received the coveted best ranch award given them for their model six acre chicken ranch. LaVeta Buethe has just been crowned Queen of the Amazons in Mogo-Wogo, Brazil, Jerry Bushner has finally succeeded, He is well known as the craziest, fastest, and most daring hot-rod driver to ever hit the hot-rod circuit. Mildred Chrismer while wearing that leopard cloth sunsuit, was mistaken for a rare red headed species of leopard and was accidently shot, though not badly hurt.
