4' l Another one, Mom! I . Varsity Grapplin': 74-75 With two new coaches, IVlr. Pizzica and Mr. Bastedo, the Wrestling Team didn't do as well as in previous sea- sons. The team compiled a 3-5 record, falling to sixth place in the league. Although the team experienced many disappointments as a group, many individuals placed high in league standings. Mike Theis, last year's CIF champ, captured first place in the league, and advanced to CIF prelims, and later to CIF finals. Dale Denos, the team's 106 lb. strongman also placed first in the league, which advanced him to CIF prelims, Frank Garcia, 98 lbs., and Joe Redman, 130 lb., placed second and third in the league, respectively. At the end of the sea- son, these four wrestlers all won trophies. Mike Theis was awarded lVlost Valuable Wrestler: Dale Denos re- ceived the IVlost Improved trophy, Frank Garcia got the Most Consistent Weight Loss trophy, and Joe Redman captured the Most Dedicated award. Under the leadership of Coach Bastedo, this year's Junior Varsity Wrestling Team placed fourth in the San Andreas League, with a 5-3 record. Dave Smith, Tom States, Rusty Tygart, and Robert lVlcClain led the team to repeated victory with their outstanding slcills. Dave Smith and Robert lVlcClain were voted by the coaches as lVlost Valuable and lVlost Improved Wrestlers, res ectivel . At the Mini Grapplers D y league finals, the team placed fifth, as Dave Smith took third, and Tom States and Frank Pierce both placed third in their Weight classes. lVlany fine wrestlers made up the team, and will be contributing to fantas- tic J.V. . and Varsity teams next year - ,11-.1 Wanna' feel my muscle, Ref?
