SPIRIT OF THE SOUTHWEST. . .variety and expansion. Passed from generation to generation, the South- western way ot lite has distinguished its people from those in other parts of the country. People from all walks ot lite assume the easy going manner which is so traditional of the Southwest. Offering warm hos- 28 pitality and friendliness, the student loody and faculty of Ysleta High School create an appealing atmosphere for all concerned. Having received a BS from South- west Texas State College and an MA from Sul Ross, Mr. J. M. Hanks has been with the Ysleta Independent School District for thirty-seven years. Now serving as superintendent, he meets with the school board and manages all the affairs of the District. Besides his daily duties he still finds time to deliver speeches for the im- portant assemblies at the different high schools. J. M. Hanks, Superintendent Mr. Clyde Wafer received a BA at Cen- tenary College and an MA at Texas West- ern College. He started his career as a coach at Ysleta High, and later served as principal for thirty years. He became assistant superintendent in the fall of 1962 and has completed his second year on this iob.
