The purpose of the band is to promote citizenship and musicianship and to represent the school at civic functions. It attended all the football games of the season except the one at Pecos, and marched in two football parades held in El Paso, in the parade opening the Christmas season, and in the Sun Carnival parade on New Year's Day. The band had a proin- inent part in the ceremony between halves of the Fort 'Wingate-Ysleta football game dedicat- ing the new Hutchins Stadium, participated in the program presented at the hoineconiing in the fall, and entered the regional division of the tri-state music contest in April. The orchestra has played throughout the year for the Thanksgiving services held at the high school, a Christmas program at the Community Center VVoman's Club, a tea given by the Ysleta W'oman's Club, the coronation of the Sun Carnival princess from Ysleta, and the granuuar school graduation. Also the orchestra accompanied the chorus in the presentation of an operetta in February, and took part in the annual spring concert. The purpose of the annual camp is to zitieustoxn the boys to living together, to stimu- late school spirit, to cause them to think football, :ind to regulate their training hours for eat- ing, sleeping, and working. The coaches attribute their success of the last three seasons to the good beginning made in camp. After both teams had made many fumbles with a slippery ball, the Bulldogs scored a touchdown and extra point, and the game ended with their victory, 7-O. The next week the Indians NICE the lil Paso Tigers on the local gridiron. At the end of the half the Tigers were two touchdowns ahead of the Indians, who came back in the second half to score 13 points, as did the Tigers, making the final score 25-13 in favor of El Paso. On October ti the Indians lost another game to the Austin Panthers on the Panthers' Held, the score being I4-0. Spectacular among the games of the season was the one played at the lil Paso stadium on October 12 with the Bowie Bears. .-Xt the end of the half the Bears led the Indians 13-0, but the Indians proved in the second half that they could not be disheartened by a poor begin- ning and won the game 14-13. The next game for the Indians, played against Cathedrals Irish, was an easy victory for the home team, with the score 39-0. In a second game with the El Paso Tigers, at lil Paso, the Indians again took the small end of the score, I2-0. On November 3 the Indians journeyed to meet the Pecos Eagles. Two minutes before the final gun the Indians led the Eagles 2049.1 Then an Indian kickoff to the Eagles carried the ball into the end zone where it was picked up by a fleet Eagle who ran 105 yards for a touch- down. making the final score 25-20 in the Eagles' favor. The next week the Indians won from the Tularosa Wildcats, 73-6. ' As a part of the homecoming program. the Ysleta Indians met the Ft. Vifingate Indians on November 17. Although the redskins from Ft. VVingate put up a good fight, they were defeated by the Ysletans 41-12. The closing game of the season was a second game with Bowie played on the local gridiron. The Indians should have won, with two extra trials for the extra point, but the game ended 152-12. At the close of the season the squad elected Jack Butehofsky captain. During his last two years of eligibility jack has been voted the most valuable player on the team, and this past season he was awarded the Herald Post trophy for the most valuable man in the district. Harry Rader, a freshman, was also selected by the Post for the All-district team.
