SS | std nbathiatlaataieid tiara Lichtin Lamps have both a literal and symbolic meaning! Literally, they are lights by which we see in time of darkness. Symbolically, they rep- resent Enlightenment, Visibility, and Dlumina- tion, Without them man would be constantly searching in the dark. Lights are not extras, but they are necessities of life. Education too is a practical necessity of life. Just as lights rep- resent Enlightenment, Visibility, and Illumina- tion, so does education. In 1915, Ypsilanti High School served as a light for students who entered its doors. The old lamp is its symbol. In 1965 Ypsilanti High School continues to light the way—the new lamp is its symbol. Looking at the schools and the lamps, one sees mere symbols. For the real test of enlightenment in any institution of learn- ing is the final product— the individuals who are educated there. The task at hand for Ypsilanti High School is to be the New Light for students who must take their place in 20th Century America. Ypsilanti High School. . Class of 1968 The sophomore class started off its round of activities with the Sophomore Orientation. Class elections were held at the beginning of the year. The sophomores were honored by the seniors and juniors at the Sophomore Reception. Working hard on their float entry, skating at Recreation Park followed by dancing, selling candy for a money-making project and a picnic in the spring found the sophomores actively demon- strating their school spirit.
