xmportant part of our l1ves H1story had a begmmng and so dxd the Class of 1955 We have been act1ve ID numerous clubs and orgamzatwns 1n our school wmmng all of the honors offered to us but at the same txme we have mamtamed the most xmportant functmon of school acqu1r1ng an educat1on Out of the portals of Yps1lant1 H1gh th1s year w1ll step over 190 semors the largest class to graduate from our hlgh school It would be 1mposs1ble to trace each 1nd1v1dua1 h1story but we w1ll try to cover the magor pomts of h1story for the Class of 1955 The class got off to a fme start when 1n 1951, our mnth year, we elected Dan Odegard, Bob Noll Clara Shaw and Audrey Randall as class off1cers and had as our adv1ser Mlss Nev1lle We broadened our mterests by Jommg many clubs Th1s f1rst year two new clubs G1rls' Swlmmmg and Future Teachers, were orgamzed and charter members found thelr way mto our class Twenty one of our glrls were chosen to become members of the G1rls' Drum Gt Bugle Corps the largest number ever to be admltted to that organ1zat1on Th1rteen boys made outstandmg performances ln the Marchmg Band E1ght boys won varslty letters ln sports com pet1t1on And so the class of 1955 was on 1ts way We started our Sophomore year 1n September 1952 and elected as off1cers Bob Noll John Martm Clara Shaw and Nancy W1lde M1ss Crothers was our adv1ser We were glven a receptlon so that we could off1c1al1y he adm1tted 1nto the Sen1or d1v1s1on Marc1a Damoose starred 1n forens1c work by w1nn1ng the Reg1onal Forenslc Contest 1n oratomcal declamatlons We were proud of the splendxd records our boys were makmg Ln sports Thls year mneteen boys recelved varslty letters Nancy W1lde was elected to the h1.gh post of treasurer of the Student Counc1l Terry Montonye and Maxe Obermeyer were chosen to attend Wolverme Boys State Two of our class were 1n1t1ated mto the Nat1onal Thesp1an SOC1Ety And so we turn an other page 1n the hxstory of our great class When our Jumol year arr1ved, we began to real1ze Beverly Abbeg our class off1cers Marc1a Damoose and Maxe Obermeyer had lead1ng roles 1n the all school play 'Stag Lme ' The boys of our class won 44 vars1ty let ters th1s year and the followlng were elected to captamcy of the d1fferent sports for the commg year Larry H1nk1ey and Prmce Freeman football Guy Wynn cross country Jesse Boyd and Levx S1mpson track Dan Odegard wrestlmg and golf Dave Holley swxmmmg, Tom Kosky basketball We showed great llterary talent when we swept the 11terary contests Patr1c1a Keegan placed second 1n the d1str1ct or1g1nal oratoncal contest and was a state wxnner m the Kmghts of Phyth1as Orator1cal contest Marc1a Damoose won the d1str1ct and placed second 1n the reg1onal Dramat1c Readmg contest Fourteen of us became members of the Nat1onal Honor Soclety 1n our Jumor year Qu1ll 8: Scroll selected four members from our class The Nat1onal Thesp1an Soclety added many new members from our class Nancy W1lde was aga1n elected as treasurer of the Student Councll and Beverly Abbeg was elected secretary The greatest moment of the year was the honor assembly when we were presented the Board of Educat1on Cup as the outstandxng class of the year wxth a total of 56 po1nts On September 8 1954, we the great Class of 1955 began our Semor year! The pre v1ous three years records we had made seemed l1ke mere forma11t1es to the ep1sode wh1ch was to unfold durmg the 1954 55 school year We had Mr Paul R1tch1e as our advlser and durmg our year of re1gn we learned what a remarkable person he was as he proved h1s capabzlltles 1n so many ways We had many class meetmgs thxs year conducted by Bob Noll and he was asslsted by Jack Brown Lo1s Wendt, and Merrlth Lamson the other off1cers Gerald Lundy and Terry Montonye were co editors of the 'Sem wh11e Ann Kzsor ed1ted the yearbook We were fortunate to have such capable people as Carolyn Exelby headmg the Drum 8: Bugle Corps and Ph1l Reld the Boys' Marchmg Band Marc1a Damoose was the reclplent of the DAR award Ph1l Re1d and Patr1c1a Keegan attended the mock UN Assembly The A cappella cho1r and double octette had many semors 1n them F1fty two boys won vars1ty letters and f1ve of these boys helped to earn second place m the state wrestlmg meet Dan Odegard, Rtchard Bow, and Alwyn Coll1ns placed second 1n the1r welght Forenslc Key w1nners were Sue Bamrd Marc1a Damoose, Lots Wendt Ann Klsor Maxe Obermeyer Pat r1c1a Keegan, and Joyce Henry Our sen1or play Sabrma Fa1r, was a smash h1t The play was gwen under the wonderful d1rect1on of Mlss Madge Isemmger Maxe Obermeyer was a state wmner 1n the Kn1ghts of Phyth1as con .
