The Class of 1951 Wishes also to pay tribute to the memory of Mr. Martin Opem instructor in Industrial Arts, who died suddenly on April 18, 1951. Several members of the class of '51 were cast in leading roles in the mystery- comedy which contained many different moods, including suspence, comedy, thrills, and various involved incidents. This very entertaining program which was directed by Miss Iseminger, was witnessed by a good-sized audience. x N I y Q Wi if i time UUR J'HOP The class of 1951 held their .T-Hop in the evening of February 12, 1950 from 9 P.M. to 12:00 P.M. in the ballroom of Charles McKenny Hall. Over 150 couples attended this winter semi-formal dance. The decorations featured a revolving multicolored spotlight shining upon a life-sized dancing couple in silhouette form which was centered on a large fancy valentine. The favors were also made on the valentine theme, and the refreshments were strawberry sundaes. Because of the effort that the class of 1951 put forth for organization and co-operation, this J -Hop turned out to be one of the class's most successful projects. SENIUR XMAS PARTY was-L All. PMN The National Thespian Society troop of our school, advised by Miss Iseminger, started for this year with six members, five of which were seniors. The following seniors held office during the year: Ann Lurkins, President, Roger Walker, Vice President, Elisabeth Schellinger, Secretary, Dick Wilbur, Treasurer, and Mary Helen Wildman, social chairman. After the all-school play, many new senior Thespians were initiated. A delicious potluck supper followed this initiation. The Senior Play, Operetta, and One Act Plays provided many more mem- bers for this dramatic club, and another formal initiation was held during the last few weeks of school to bring in these peo- ple. I -.asf These groups, the A capella choir and double octette, have selected personnel coming from the two chor- uses, numbering approximately 180 students. ,Entry is acquired through proper try-outs and eliminations,- and all must be members of either chorus: The a capella choir, numbering forty-two students, has ap- peared for the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs several times during the past years. The annual ChristmasVespers are given jointly by the A capella choir and the or-' chestra, and is a major project yearly. The choir was honored this year by being asked to sing at the Michigan Central Depot in Detroit during the Christ- mas season. At times, space did not permit such a large group of students to perform, hence the double octette was called upon to do the job. Of course, you all knew it was the double octette which brought you the caroling in the halls at Christmas time. The octette has appeared several times at assemblies during the past years plus numerous other occasions, includingn trips down to the Ladies Literary Clubhouse. The 6- B Festival joined together our A capella choir with those from the five other schools in the league, this presented an opportunity for members to sing in a larger unit, and proved to be very satisfactory. The year started out with few return- ing lettermen, but was built up to a team of fighting spirit. The team was led by Fritz Kess- ler. Each girl swam three events taking four firsts, three sec- onds and one third. The final score was Sen- iors 30, Juniors 0, Sophomores 26, and Fresh- - men 18. The three were very energetic and ready for the big meet and determined towin for their class. Those swimming were Phyllis Kelly, Naomi Hill, and Juanita Stinedurf. Their captain was Phyllis Kelly. Under the direction of Mr. William Bedford, girls' tennis team has been newly formed this year with meetings on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. At these sessions, the girls received instruction and pointers on how to play tennis. Also in 1950 they were 1nv1ted to a state conference at the Umverslty of M1ch1gan for an all day exercise plus leadmg yells at the foot ball game. In '48 and '49 they went to A1b1on to the regionals and thus year they went to Flint to the reglonals. In 1949 they received new umforms from the Student Councll.
