T DEDICATION We the graduating class of 1953, realizing that ours may well be the last Senior Class to be graduated from :Youngwood High School as such, wish to dedicate this our Annual to our Alma Mater, We realize, of course. that this procedure may be somewhat unusual but we are certain that our administration and faculty will see our point. Most of us have spent four or more years within the confines of these hallowed walls and we feel quite certain that time can never dim the memories that are ours. This much we owe for we have come to realize that here in the past fleeting years we have passed from adolescence into manhood and womanhood. Within this building have nurtured friendships that will color our lives in the years ahead. For these and many other reasons we here dedicate our Yearbook to our school. May we be ever loyal to her traditions and may the memories of these wonderful years spent within her walls grow and influence our lives from now on. ci. 14,3 O 1--1 mfr 1 n ,n A. :r I 40,9 I 5 . slx.,, A . 5 ff f f teachers classmates underclasses RAILROADERS We L ,. m----N- T 1T,,,f.T 4'i..., K i 9 . 5-wsu-. , f I U '51-u-1 .5-T on Y Q 6:3- l ,A x E vl Us .M A C -Z-, If ws .QL V 4 mm .M 1 ML. 4 ,4 .--. .4 1 f 1 'V' W .,-I I L Q f, .M 113. ,. SHIRLEY EISLER ASSEMBLY REPRES. .,..,....., STEVE CHERAN SENIOR HISTORY When we as Freshmen started our journey through Youngwood High School we were shy and not quite sure what was expected of us. We were stationed in Room 2 under Mr. Fox's supervision. Our class dance, The Shamrock Shindig was held on St. Patricks Day. As Sophomores our home room teachers were Mr. Fox and Mrs. Cable. Under their supervision we worked hard and after our midlterm examinations we held our class dance which we called Cupid's Frolic, which was greatly enjoyed by all. We felt then that after a brief vacation we would be ready for our next stop as Juniors. How proud we were to become Juniors. We then added to our class students from New Stanton, South Grensburg, and Harrolds. The highlight of our Junior year was, of course, the Prom whose theme was April Showers. The dance was well attended and everyone had a wonderful time. We were then ready to enter our final year of school. As Seniors, under the supervision of Mrs. Cable and Mr. Mari. we are a little sad when we realize that this is our final stop in our journey through Youngwood High School. The photographer came to school and took our pictures and we received the finished portraits before Christmas. Members of the band, football and basketball teams received their jackets. One of the main events of our Senior Year was the Senior Class Play the hilarious melo-drama of the gay nine- ties The Curse of an Aching Heart. The cast never had a better time then when they modeled the old fashioned clothes which were used. With a great deal of enthusiasm and no regret, we look forward to our Baccalaure- ate Services on May 24 and Commencement on May 28. Absolutely nothing, and withcut the services of Sally Newcomer and Mary Ruth Storey as Photo Editors where would we be? On the next floor are the Art Editors, whose delightful drawings you see through these pages. Our artists are shirley Eisler, Ron- nie Schrock, and David Poerio. Further up the hall is the Typing Room where Shirley Rafferty and Phyllis Ciam- pini are typing while Ilene Spade and Nan Hay are compiling their Patron's List. The girls in the next room are very familiar to you, we're sure. They sell the candy each day at lunchtime and after school. We are deeply indebted to their constant services. Margaret Trout, Shirley Kochis, Joyce Wells, Francis Smith, Laura Mae Miller, and some girls previously mentioned are given credit for this donation of time. A little further down the corridor we find the extra large room where all the Sub- scription Sellers keep adding more names to their listsmLawrence Testa, Don llam- rock, Grace McVay, Kathleen Burkholder, Jack Kane, Steve Cheran. Russell Glass, Re- gina Conde, Virginia llaba, Ralph Moore, Barry Blackburn, Elaine lloyle, Margie XVagner, Janet Stohl, Mary Ruth Storey and Thelma Summy. Well there they are the complete staff work- ing hard to issue a bigger and better year- book than before. Did you like your trip? We hope you did. We enjoyed telling you about our little building, and we hope that when you look at your 1953 Maroon and White in the fu- ture, the memories will be happy ones. Msg.. It has grown from a small group of about 16 mem- bers of several years ago to its present membership of approximately 35 members. Some are absent from the above picture. They have a regular rehearsal time each week which accounts for their steady pro- gress. The Junior Band opens the first part of the Spring Band Concert. This year it includes a variety of numbers including a full length overture, a novelty number, a serenade and several marches. The band is composed of a good variety of instruments and is represented in each section by these instruments with the exception of a Bass Horn. It must look too BIG or heavy to everyone. The Junior Band is a wonderful stepping stone into the Senior Band. The experience of playing in this group enables the student to learn team work which is very essential to a good playing band as well as the ability to play well. Join the Junior Band and before you realize it you wi'l be in the Senior Band. front Row-Left to right-Gladys shrader, Carol Magin, Myrna Long, Carol Williams, Marla Lynch, Iona Eisarnan Mr Wagner. 2nd Row-Nerita Darling, Bonnie Blackson, Mona Lou Minder, Sus1e'W1neman, Janet Hough, Beverly Mellors Marley Ann Wilson. 3rd Row-Gilbert Thomas, Bobby Gettemy, Frank Stmebiser, Bobby Schlotter, Eddie Miner Paul Sams, Bobby Wentzel, Barry Williams, Scott Gettemy. 4th Row-lack-McVay, Fred Repasky, Jack Lopes, Larry Orner Buddy Orner, Bobby Newcomer, Ronnie Grieff, Barry Baird, Tom Kmtigh.
