SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Prendent Wxllram Cowan Vzce Prerzden: Rtchard Deforrest Secretary Nadean Brdar Arrembly Reprerenmnve Paul Blanda The Engtne Pulled Into Statron I After havxng completed the first erght grades successfully and havmg enyoyed a three months va catron a group of twenty erght students entered Youngwood Hugh School on September 5 1948 On the Hrst day of school we were welcomed wnth the usual rmtratron berng thoroughly pamted and then spendrng hours cleanmg rt off At Chrlstmas we had a party wtth refreshments and entertarnment rn room two Our Freshman dance was held ln Aprrl and we used Easter trme as our theme Wxth Earl Zerlmger as presndent and Mr Fox as our sponsor we earned a posxtron for ourselves rn the school currlculum Addrng The Tender To Our Engrne We Entered Statron II In our Sophomore year we began takrng a more actlve part tn school actnvmes In athletlcs the bas ketball squad was strengthened consnderably by the capable playlng of our Sophomore boys The Sopho more grrls took an actrve part rn all the school actxv mes We held a Samt Patrrck s Day dance whrch was a huge success Wrth Earl Yenlrnger agann sersmg as our presr dent and Mlss Kunkle and Mr Mough our sponsors we took a htgher step towards the end of our goal tfenzor Clan' Iibrtmy Pullrng Into Statron III We Added The Cars To Our Rug Our umor year 1948 49 confronted us wrth the same old problems marnly tht ratsmg of funds rn order to sponsor a jutuor Semor Prom Wrth the addrtnon of the Hempfield Townshrp students our class Increased to forty sux Robert Trout a Hempfield student was chosen as our Presr dent Frrst came the selectmg of our class rmgs whrch presented rts usual headaches rn choosnng the one best lxked by the class We recerved them for Chrrst mas We held our class dance durmg Hallowe en and presented our class play Who Ktlled Aunt Caro l1ne7 on March 25 Both of these actrvrtres were a huge success Havxng sufficrent funds plans were made for the prom The theme of the dance was Sprmg Fan tasy and we decorated rn the colors of the rambow and sky gnvmg a very scemc effect The affarr was held on Aprrl 28 10 the audrtorrum and we danced to the mustc of lmmy Brunellr When we departed as jumors xt was agreed that we had a very successful term Arrrvmg At Statnon IV We Added the Caboose To Complete Our Tram We as senrors entered the corrrdors of old Y H S on September 1950 to begun our last lap rn the course of our htgh school career The sxghts for our home trampmg grounds were rooms 17 and I8 wlth Mrss Kunkle and Mr Rutter actmg as our sponsors Frrst on the ltst thrs term was the electron of class officers whrch resulted rn Wrlllam Cow an berng elected as our presrdent In the course of actrvntres we sold candy throughout the year and held specml sales durmg Chrtstmas and Easter We held our class dance durmg Halloween and labeled rt the Semor Scare In late October we Journeyed to Cfrtdler Studro rn Mt Pleasant where we had our gradumon prctures taken In Aprnl our Semor members of the football squad presented a show entntled Vaudevnlle Varretnes to rarse funds rn order to purchase jackets To add to the lust of actnvrtres durmg May wt staged our cl ass play Whos A Srssy whnch pleased everyone and was an overall success On May 25th we held our M ty Day Exerclses whrch proxed to be a colorful affair We recenved our relrgrous gundance at Bacca laureate Seruces on Sunday une thrrd We made our hnal debut on june seventh 1951 when we re cened the drplomas whrch we had long worked for i 0 e P J 1 ' 5 v , s a ' 3 , - . , .
