C g Albet t H yR d 8 I th W lt Th Ol IH THL BAQKET HAI I REQI ME 1941 1942 I he squ id was coached this year by a new coach Harold Herr who came from Nlt J oy Pennsylx anna Il ith a record of 16 wins out of 23 games the Maroon md W hite squad was respected by all its foes For the first time in the history of the school the Railroaders won the Section 24 championship of the W P I A L Newton a team any previous Youngwood team couldn t beat during the regular season since the W P I A L Section 24 started This year s team was eliminated in the County tournament by an upset vic tory by Trafford in the second round In the W P I A L tournament the Rail roaders were eliminated by Ligonier the Section 13 winner and a team we failed to beat in two prexious encounters This year s team can boast of a great de fense because only three teams scored thirty or more points on them in one game In one of these three games Youngwood was xictorious This years defensiye record is of the best in the history of our school VS ith only one holdoyer from the preyious year the team established a fine record I' he team was composed of Harry Robbins and Albert Mari as forwards C aptain Paul Smith and Don Coughenour as guards and Francis Hauger as eenter The team also had ample reserye strength in Nlilfred Smith and Jack Olson forwards Helman as center with F rellck Lamb and Thomas at guards 'I his year s team was represented on the All County squad by Mari who was t hosen for the second team and by P Smith who was gn en an honorable mention berth lhis years team average was 31 4 points per game while last year s team ix erage was 33 8 points per game Ihe squad was made up of nine seniors and two Juniors P Smith Hauger 'Xl :ri 'XI Smith Olson Helman Frelick lamb and 'I homas played their last se ison of bxsketball for Xoungwood being. lost by graduation The scoring honors went to P Smith who was ox er the hundred mark He was followed closely by Robbins and Nlari who were also over the hundred mark Baslcetball 40 I,. to R.
