The students found when they returned to school last September that Room Number Seven had been transformed mto a Home Economics Laboratory In fact the labora tory xs one of the best of rts type rn the county Youngw ood High School naturally takes prrde rn the fact that the desks cabrnets cuttrng table fitting stand and rronmng boards were made rn the school shop by Mr Shrader The beautrful Tappan ranges are all equrp ped wrth Robertshaw oven control manufactured by the Robertshaw Thermostat Com pany of Youngwood The girls all thought at the begmnrng of tlre year that Home Economrcs Class would be a chance to rest In a few weeks they changed therr mrnds entirely They found that to prepare a meal serve rt and wash the drshes rn forty mm utes was a task that kept them busy every mmute The Home Economrcs Course covers a wrde varrety of subjects The boys enjoy most the days when the girls are cooking They are always at the door of the laboratory be tween classes begging for samples They want to taste everythrng from macaroni and cheese to pineapple coo nes It amuses the boys to find the girls busy cleaning stoves scourrng srnks and scrubbing desks even after the bell has rung Cloth1ng to the boys means nothing but to the grrls rn the classes rt means pmnrng bastrng sewmg and mostly rrpprng It seems as though nobody can sew straight at first but after rrpprng many trmes that desrred straight seam rs finally accomplrsred Studymg l'ow to care for one s ha1r skmn and fingernarls as well as how to choose the most becomrng colors seems a lrttle out of place rn school but the grrls have decided that these subjects are rnterestmg and helpful addrtrons to the course Learnmg how to dust sweep wash and rron rs not very exc1t1ng but the girls have to admrt that they wrll probably find use for that knowledge The arm of the department rs to grve rnstructrons which wrll be helpful to the girls in solvrng therr problems in high school and also rn preparing them to be capable and eiiicrent homemakers 30 s 9 1 - 1 1 ' . ,. . . - . , 9. - r 1 a v - s A . . , . . . . a x s 9 ' 7 7 7 Y ' I
