During his freshman year he took several Hrsts and Went on to break both high and low hurdle records in his sophomore year. At the district track meet he qualified for the state meet. His district scores were: low hurdles - 20.0, tying the district record, high hurdles - 15.5. At the state meet he placed first in the low hurdles - time, 19.9, and third in the high hurdles, time - 15.2. During the summer of 1969 he ran in the A.A.U. junior Olym- pics, placing Hrst and breaking the record in the low hurdles. This enabled him to go to Quantico, Virginia, Where he placed second out of five boys that competed. ln the summer of 1970 he traveled to Atlantic City, New jersey, for the A.A.U. meet.
