JOHN HUMMER Vocational Agriculture HOME EO. Do you know how to bake a pie? The Home Eco- nomic students in our school do. With a fine instructor like Mrs. Bryan, yo-u are bound to learn to cook. In addition to this accomplishment, the girls also learn to he more aware of their appearance, to acquire skills in construction of garments, the principles of nutrition, the making of wise decisions, home nursing, child care, efficient management, and social hospitality. Home Economics is required for all junior high stu- dents. This year for the first time, the Crisco award for the outstanding student in Home Economics will be given in addition to the traditional Betty Crocker award.

v The car that passed few tests but passed many long study hall hours! A valuable part of every juniorls schedule is the required Driver's Education class. Meeting once a week, the class studies the laws pertaining to drivers of all vehicles and important facts concerning driving. Every student has experience in actual driv- ing sometime during the year. This gives him practical experience along with textbook theory. No one missed seeing this year's Driver Education car. Mr. Shapiro and his students were whisked smartly about town in a 'alively red onel' from Ford. The car, leased each year from Clarkls Ford, is equipped with dual controls for greater safety and instructional value. MR. Mr. .lo-hnson constructs a drawing for his drafting class and points out the importance of three dimensional drawings to his metal shop class. MR. DONALD JOHNSON Industrial Arts The Industrial Arts department has been greatly enlarged this year. The additions made it possible to expand the program to include senior high courses. The previously used facilities were barely adequate for junior high alone. The senior high courses include: drafting, wood shop, and metal shop. These courses are electives. The main objectives of teaching industrial arts on the senior high level is not to teach a boy to be INDUQTEJEALAPIQ MR. RAY KAHLE Industrial Arts Mr. Kahle explains the fundamental tools and demonstrates their use in the wood shop. a mechanic or draftsman, but to help' him build a background and interest in this field. The seventh and eighth grade students are required by the State to take industrial arts. Freshman courses in industrial arts are elec- tives. lndustrial Arts has many phases including work with wood, plastics, metal, and electricity. 71
