The Science Department offers a variety of courses throughout Junior and Senior High School. Advanced technology in almost any field requires at least some science background. The department aims to satisfy everyone-fs needs, Whether he plans on farming or collegeg shop Work or 'secretarialg forestry or nurs- ing. During the first two years at Y.H.S., students are required to take General Science, an introductory sci- ence course touching on some aspects of biology, chem- istry, and physics. A new course for interested fresh- men Was added this year: Earth and Space Science, a study of our solar system and characteristics of the earth. Plant and animal life is studied by all sopho- mores in Biology, While Chemistry is a junior elective and Physics, a senior elective. Consumer Chemistry is an elective also open to juniors. Here, chemistry is related to everyday living. Physical Science is a consumer-type physics course open to seniors who are more interested in physics' application to familiar substances rather than strict application of formulas. 62 Above Left: MR.
