One does not have to wander far from his own home ground to witness the struggle of nature both physical nature and the struggle for precedence among the many natures of man. Rotting monuments to man's hopefulness and hope- lessness in the face of the technological reality that con- fronts him. No matter what path one chooses, however, no one can avoid coming into contact with nature, whether it is ravaged or unspoiled. Even in a technological society, nature remains a source of pleasure and provides un- equaled opportunities to gain a perspective on the world. It is one of the few awe-inspiring sights the world has to offer. Most importantly, it is our only source of sustenance. 6

Yet man, as the world, begins in a natural state. He is born to a reverance of nature. lt is only as he grows, and society with him, that he must cope with the giants which separate him from himself. With myths of in- dustrial supermen who would bend nature into awkward shapes they can admire and form it into a false hierarchy of aesthetics.
