1-ll' Probably no one has watched the amazing progress made by Youngstown Collge with greater pride and interest than has President Howard W. jones, head of the college since the fall of l93l. President jones has worked energetically and enthusi- astically to further the aims of the college to meet the edu- cational needs of the community. Under his regime the standards of the college have steadily been raised. In l94O the college was admitted to the Ohio College Association, in l94l to the Association of American Colleges, in i945 to the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, and in 1946 to the American Council on Education. The Youngstown College school of music became a member of the National Association of Schools of Music in l95O. Enrollment has been increased markedly during these years. ln accord with this in- crease the college has added numerous buildings to its campus. ln l94l the Dana's Musi- cal lnstitute of Warren became a part of the college and is now housed in its own building on Wick Avenue. ln i946 the former Rayen School building on Wick Avenue was leased to the college and became the William Rayen School of Engineering. Since the war five barrack buildings have been added to the campus. The C. j. Strouss Memorial Auditorium wssoadded to the main building in l949. The William B. Pollock mansion was acquired in l 5 . President jones has been a main force in the program to finance, build and equip a new library on campus, construction of which is to begin in l95l. He has also been instru- mental in the acquisition of an anti-aircraft artillery R. O. T. C. unit, presenting another worthwhile opportunity to the Youngstown College student. May Youngstown College continue its fine record of achievement under the able guidance of Howard jones. 52.
