In a special rally for freshmen on Wed- nesday, October 26, Homecoming broke the static calm of the week, climaxing several weeks of planning preparing by the Home- coming committee, headed by Donald E. l. Smith. There was another rally the following day on the north campus for upperclassmen, Highlighting the rally activities was the judg- ing of floats submitted for the Homecoming parade by various campus organizations. Nu Sigma Rho's winning float carried the queen, lovely sophomore loyce Webb, during half- time ceremonies Friday evening. Celebrations were continued Thursday evening with a parade through the downtown area and up Wick Avenue, followed by a bon- fire rally in the student parking lot. At this rally Miss Webb and her attendants were in- formally introduced. loyce officially became YoCo's Home- coming queen for l949 when her predecessor, Peggy Biga presented her with the crown during half-time ceremonies, Friday night. Following the presentation the queen and her court-Bette Savage, Phyllis Anne C-alose, Betty layne DiMenno and Mary lo Davin were honored in a gala parade of floats around the stadium. Many students, alumni and fans were on hand as the Penguins slaughtered Mount Union, keeping intact YoCo's un- beaten string of Homecoming tilts. The night was near-perfect-weather not too cold, just snappy. Following the game, the YoCo rooters, drunk with victory and too much gaping at the queen and her pretty attendants, convened at Stambaugh Auditorium for the Home- coming Dance. Albert Linder, college chaplains, conducted a short religious service and President Howard jones reminded students of their obligation to the war dead. Neon representatives were on hand to open the sales campaign with a preview of the l95O edition and the awarding of a free yearbook to a member of each class. Under- graduate group pictures were taken during the as- sembly for use in the Neon, November l2 was officially proclaimed Sadie Hawkins Day, and after a hectic day for eligible males around school, YoCo'ites in typical Dogpatch attire swarmed to the Heidelberg Gardens for the annual Kappa Sig sponsored Sadie Hawkins Dance, An attendance of over 'SOOO alumni, students, relatives and friends made the first open house held by the Engineering School a success on November l7. A noon rally on November l8 preceeded the final game of the season when the Penguins en- countered Custavus-Adolphus, marking the close of another football year. Following the game the Touchdown Trot, sponsored jointly by the Alpha Delts and the Phi Sigs, was held at the Pick-Ohio Ballroom. Crowded cafe, Tcxlk, Neon, neon, Hum! l Pledges, Sadie Hawkins. Someones ofi key, cheek to cheek, it's cold.
