Every year you may expect an increase in the social affairs of clubs, fraternities and sororities during this month. Teas and socials were many. At the college president's home, Mrs. jones presided as hostess over two-one on October 7 for the Freshmen girlsg another on October l l for faculty women and wives of faculty men. Freshman classes were suspended on the l9th so that students and faculty might attend the Freshman Brunch in Mill Creek Park. Chairman of the affair Angelo Nacarado reported good attencl- ance of both profs and students and the weather perfect for the games, sports, dancing and merry-making which made up the activities for the day. Homecoming activities, which took the spotlight on Wednesday, October 26, remained foremost on the agenda until the climactic finale Friday night in the game, coronation and dance. In a special rally for freshmen on Wed- nesday, October 26, Homecoming broke the static calm of the week, climaxing several weeks of planning preparing by the Home- coming committee, headed by Donald E. l. Smith. There was another rally the following day on the north campus for upperclassmen, Highlighting the rally activities was the judg- ing of floats submitted for the Homecoming parade by various campus organizations. Nu Sigma Rho's winning float carried the queen, lovely sophomore loyce Webb, during half- time ceremonies Friday evening. Celebrations were continued Thursday evening with a parade through the downtown area and up Wick Avenue, followed by a bon- fire rally in the student parking lot. At this rally Miss Webb and her attendants were in- formally introduced. loyce officially became YoCo's Home- coming queen for l949 when her predecessor, Peggy Biga presented her with the crown during half-time ceremonies, Friday night. Following the presentation the queen and her court-Bette Savage, Phyllis Anne C-alose, Betty layne DiMenno and Mary lo Davin were honored in a gala parade of floats around the stadium. Many students, alumni and fans were on hand as the Penguins slaughtered Mount Union, keeping intact YoCo's un- beaten string of Homecoming tilts. The night was near-perfect-weather not too cold, just snappy. Following the game, the YoCo rooters, drunk with victory and too much gaping at the queen and her pretty attendants, convened at Stambaugh Auditorium for the Home- coming Dance.
