Homv oww-ua J QF 1 V99 1 .K , F' LJ C0 F M f X- . f Q ' 1,1 'MW 2' Kriyxsvy -f 3 l 4 '- ' 39, if SzpT m,,..fi - ln a special pre-school assembly on September l6, President Howard jones officially welcomed the in- coming Freshman students to Youngstown College. ln his welcoming address, President jones expressed a sin- cere hope that the new students had enrolled in heart and spirit in addition to signing an enrollment contract. A slight but significant change in enrollment was evi- denced by this assemblage: there were more co-eds, fewer Cl's and fewer Freshmen than in l948. Numeri- cally, the ratio of men to women had dropped from 5-l to 4-l in a total enrollment of 4590. Following the assembly, a reception dance was held in the auditorium, with Student Council members acting as hosts and hostesses. Highlight of the evening was a gathering of faculty members at the home of President and Mrs. jones, who entertained them. Opening day on the YoCo campus was reminiscent of a weekend in C-rand Central Station. The confusion and disorder of the occasion was as catachlysmic as a minor atomic explosion. Imagine the chain reaction created when forty-five hundred homogenous and hetero- genous personalities clash and intermingle. This smog of informality is the atmosphere one walked into as he entered the portals for the first time. One particular student from a stiff shirt school commented when she had recovered from her first reaction, Love that stuff. I dor1't know where to go next, Don't be ccxught with your beanie off The rock cost S500 to move here, Pres. Iones Registration, Assembly.

Every year you may expect an increase in the social affairs of clubs, fraternities and sororities during this month. Teas and socials were many. At the college president's home, Mrs. jones presided as hostess over two-one on October 7 for the Freshmen girlsg another on October l l for faculty women and wives of faculty men. Freshman classes were suspended on the l9th so that students and faculty might attend the Freshman Brunch in Mill Creek Park. Chairman of the affair Angelo Nacarado reported good attencl- ance of both profs and students and the weather perfect for the games, sports, dancing and merry-making which made up the activities for the day. Homecoming activities, which took the spotlight on Wednesday, October 26, remained foremost on the agenda until the climactic finale Friday night in the game, coronation and dance.
