PRESIDENT HOWARD W. lONES ABEY STUDIOS In l928 Howard jones became the assistant to the president at Hiram College eventually paving his way to becoming our president in l936. Here prexy, as he is affectionately called by the students and staff, began the task of putting YoCo on the map. To do this he had to do a great deal of fund raising, for which he is noted. To put a job of this sort over President jones used every means at his command including optimism and enthusiasm. He never undertakes a task unless he is sure that it will succeed and never relaxes until it is done. With this type of man at the helm there is no doubt that our college will be one of note. Prexy's aim is to meet local needs and he has the full co-operation of industry in doing this. We can truly say: Our president is a part of the Ohio Story and will eventually take his place among the great men of the state and nation.

ABEY STUDIOS DEAN jOSEPl-l E. SMITH DEAN 0F THE CIILLEGE We have a person in our midst who is one of the most versatile beings you will ever encounter in any institution of higher learning. This is none other than our own Doctor joseph E. Smith, Dean of the College. Doc, as he is affectionately known to the stu- dent body, was born in the Sunflower State, Kansas. l-le later moved to Nebraska where he received his early education and held a variety of jobs in the wheat fields and on the railroads of the middle west. L'Doc is also quite a sportsman, played baseball and is said to have a very tricky left hand shot on the basket- ball court, shoots in the low eighties on the golf course, and even swings a mean racket on the tennis court. Doc joe has always loved competition as is shown when he won a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University in England, where he received a BA., later Doc returned to the U, S. where he was granted an lVl.A. at the University of Nebraska, but Doc wasn't satisfied with this he returned once more to England where he obtained his Ph. D. from Wallas College, London, England. Today Doctor Smith is still deeply engrossed in the education field having recently been appointed Dean of Youngstown College after the retirement of Dr. George M. Wilcox. This would be a full time job to most men. The doctor, still has time for his hobbies, however, he tends to his garden regularly, loves to romp with his cocker spaniel Kinky and manages to tour the local golf courses regularly. His wife, our own lVlary B. Smith, adds another to this list, and that is getting along with her. We all know that this shouldn't be too difficult to do. The stock market plays a big part in his life and he gives the best advice on that, which is to keep away from it. This brings Doc up to date, but you can rest assured that there is still a lot in store for Doctor joseph E. Smith, Dean of Youngstown College. DEAN SMITH, WHO ALSO COACHES THE GOLF TEAM.
