Class room facilities have been enlarged, the library increased in size and class curriculum expanded to include new develop- ments in legal education. WILLIAM MILLER ln writing this message to the 1949 graduating class of the Dana School of Music, I cannot help but think of the lines of the great philospher, Herbert Spencer, who said, Music must take rank as the highest of the fine arts -- as the one which, more than any other, ministers to human welfare. We as musicians must be ever on the alert to see that our music program is so integrated with community lite that to be without it would be as though one had lost his speech. In persuing this program, let us strive to set up standards of what is fine and what is mediocre. Learn to discriminate that that is good and should live from that which is of doubtful quality. In doing this we will develop our own taste to the point where we each may judge accurately that music which should be preserved for posterity and will make our music a contribution to education and to living. My wish is that each of you will know success and the happiness which comes from a life of service in the field of music. 'tif Page Sixty-four St. Ioseph's Catholic Church -- The Catholic Chapel St. Ioseph's Catholic Church - The Catholic Chapel Annex I, Room 25 in the course of a year has become very popular with the Catholic students. Having a chaplain, friend and consultor on the campus of a secular college is little short of an innovation. Academic and vocational problems arise in the life of every college student: but so do spiritual troubles and difficul- ties. Faith is sometimes shaken: and more often, disputed doctrines are discussed. During the past year it has been spiritually refreshing for the Catholic students to seek the help and advice of the Chaplain. A friendly chat for a few minutes usually dispels the troubling matter: doctrinal diffi- culties are explained according to Holy Church: and the student leaves knowing in his very soul that he has been helped, comforted or strengthened in his Faith. The students can thank God and the College authorized for this benefit and advantage so cheerfully granted. . . . Father DeCrane -if Page Sixty-five li Father DeCrane Eg Feder, Meirs, Quinn. Fr. Now you approach the successful achievement of another important stage in your career. This is a good time for stock taking and for a long look ahead. Where will you be thirty years from now? In one area of achievement all can succeed: it is not competitive, it is personal and individual. What will people think of you thirty years from now? When you speak, will men trust you, or will they wonder, Now, just what are the facts? Will they realize that you are motivated by good will, justice, and right, or by favor- itism, prejudice, and selfishness? Do you trust God and respect your fellow men? Are your horizons still broadening, or is life closing in on you? What you are thirty years from now you are becoming today and each day.
