CLASS PROPHECY The year is 1952, the time is early morning, the day is clear and bright, as young, pretty, vivacious, witty, BETTY KELLY fguess who wrote thisl, world famous journalist, and loquacious CESSY MCCOY, outstanding newspaper photographer, set out to contact their classmates of 1942. We cheerfully accept this assignment from DON CAMPBELL, editor of the New Rochelle Courier, who sits with his feet on his desk with all the carefree charm that he possessed in the old days. Several other classmates who are affiliated with this rag are: MARY CLELAND, the same old golden-haired Kle with the come hither smile, and STEWART MORIN, now a very dis- tinguished dramatic critic. DAVID GOTTLIEB is seen rushing out of this news- paper office to be on time for an interview with petite DIANA SHERMAN, who recently came home from Brazil where she holds an important position in' the American consulate. From the newspaper office we go to Isaac E. Young High School to collect all possible information on our classmates. Before entering the building we see CYNTHIA GEFFEN conducting a physical education class. Iudging from the gym suits there must still be a shortage of material. Upon investigation we learn that the booming voice coming up the hall is owned by none other than MANVEL SCHAUFFLER. Except for the fact that he is now 6 feet 2 inches, he hasn't changed a bit. Manvel is teaching Latin to get revenge. EMILY PAPPAS, with her sparkling brown eyes and long curling lashes and HELEN HOCTOR, her dark tresses now worn in an upward coiffure, are both new music teachers. MARY FAGELLA, school librarian, informs us that a special assembly has been called to welcome the world renowned singer DOROTHY COLEMAN and famous concert pianist, BILL WEEKS. Mary also tells us that ELEANOR KERSHAW has just signed a contract with the Metropolitan Opera House. Naturally, we look in the office files to see which member of the Lysaght family is attending school now, and from him we learn that BILL LYSAGHT is a Marine. Other classmates who have joined that branch of the service are IAMES MURTHA lah-h-hl, EDDIE FAHEY, THOMAS PEROTTI, ARTHUR SUMMO, and ROBERT IOHNSON. ' As the three-thirty bell rings, and the energetic younger generation is let loose, we are swept out onto Centre Avenue. Oh, well, we were going to leave anyway. Our next stop is the New Rochelle Hospital where we are fortunate enough to meet DR. JAMES BROD, an excellent surgeon who has built himself a fine reputation in the medical world. Iirn's capable rnedical stenographer is VERRA PENNA. Next we meet nurse TRUDY MARSHALL in a crisp white uniform. Her sparkling blond hair is tucked neatly under her cap and her twinkling blue eyes are the best medicine anyone could get. Other pretty and capable nurses stationed there are BETTY BELLIZZI, MARY FONDA, GLADYS SMITH, and BETTY WOLFF. We also meet THELMA STROHMAN and MABEL ROYSTER, registered nurses who are doing quite nicely for themselves, and their patients. We now visit a large factory building owned by CHESTER KNOWLES, brilliant young chemical engineer who has recently discovered a new method for extracting valuable chemicals from the Sound water. Upon entering the factory we see IOHN O'REILLY, PHILLIP IOYNER, and IACK KOLNOSKI, all ace machinists. ALAN ERANKEL and HAROLD MAYER direct the firm's busi- ness staff, which includes BERNHARDT BLAUSCHILD, shipping clerk, MICHAEL 49

CAMPANELLI, top-flight commercial artist, cmd ROSE MARIE CARUSO, in charge of advertising. The clever lay-out of the factory is due to the work of architect, FRED MOSES and civil engineer, IAMES LARSON. The pinnacle of our tour around the plant is reached when we inspect the ultra-modern chemical laboratory. In among the maze of test tubes, bunsen burners and glass retorts, we see DOROTHY O'KEEFE ttalking to any one who wishes to listenl, MAL- COLM WOFSY, WARREN STEINMETZ, and ANTHONY TEDESCHI. Looking out the window, we see three artists who twe like to thinkl are sketching shoreline scenes. Upon closer investigation these artists turn out to be MARTIN KAHN, DICK THOREN, and GEORGE SANTOS. George is now taller than the other young men with him, but he confesses part of his success is due to his new wedgies. Next we hop a launch to Fort Slocum where we meet many members of that first graduating class. Major THOMAS CHAPLIN and Sergeant ANTHONY FAZIO are seen talking to hostess MARY PIZZONIA. IOE AMORELLO speeds up in an army jeep, calmly moving the flag pole and a few other obstacles out of his way. tloe always did go in for eccentric looking vehicles? When asked where he got the courage to drive so fearlessly, Ioe tells us to look at the hospital nurses. Taking his advice we meet ELEANOR MORRISSEY tlaugh- ing because her patient just swallowed a thermometerl, MARIORIE KILEEN and DORIS ZIMMERMAN. Now we see what Ioe means! All three look very pretty, neat, and capable. Before leaving the fortwe hear LEONARD WALLACE'S band starring PERE ROBINSON as vocalist, entertaining the soldiers. Lenny tells us that MARVIN BOTTNICK has just started a band of his own. Back to New Rochelle we visit a large, exclusive department store where we meet buyer ANNE DAVIDSON. Minus the freckles, but still owner of that enchanting, if not toothsome smile, Anne is a very attractive young lady. In another part of the store we see head saleslady CHRISTINA BUCHANAN with housewife GRACE STROH. In fact, one by one we meet lots of pretty, young housewives, namely BETTY GILDAY, NANCY BOWEN, PEGGY ELEM- ING, and RUTH FYALL. We also meet LUCY MUCCI out spending part of her pay check. Lucy is now chief telephone operator, and has overheard many interesting conversa- tions. In fact it's all in a day's work. V In another department, scout leader LORNA BARNES is busy showing the girls in her troop some books for children illustrated by the now famous NANCY LEE IONES. Following a crowd we find gorgeous PATRICIA MORLEY the center of attraction. Wearing a mink coat, she radiates the same beauty that she did while in Isaac E. Young. I-Ier baby blue eyes, her sparkling teeth ta new setl, and her perfect features fascinate the crowd. We also see dress designer ROSE LESSER helping model IOYCE KNEALE display a new gownless evening strap. Salesman IOE PONICO is swamped with orders for both the mink coat and the models. In the office of this store we find IOHN IONES and his capable secretary IDA TRETOLA. The latter is talking the ears off the former. Next we enter the Schiff Building and visit the legal offices of LUIGI OLIVA, ROBERT LEDERMAN, and IACOB EDWARDS. BERNICE SULTZER is executive secretary for lawyer MURRAY MENDELSOHN. Glad to hear Murray is putting his argumentative ability to good use. 50
