IW ff BOWLING TEAM Z 2 9 X 'ufiv umm1'1' x Bowling was undoubtedly the most successful Young sport this year. Tying tor second place in the County Tournament and missing first place by only tour pins, the keglers kept rolling strikes with surprising regularity. ln a few years, when bowling will probably rank as a major sport, Young should be able to have as good or better a team as any. 40

With such mainstays as Captain Schauffler, Niewenhaus, Campanelli, Murtha, D'Onofrio and, last but far from least, goalie King, the team enjoyed several closely contested battles with, strange to say, Roosevelt, Greenwich, and Dobbs Ferry, the league leaders, this year. All twelve contests were played at the Playland Casino, Rye. The numer- ous practices were held in the gymnasium, and on outdoor ice at Carpenters Lake when the weather permitted. Young will be seen in action next season with quite a few regulars return- ing with a better knowledge of the game and the same fighting heart as always. 39

E31 X , 'M TRACK TEAM ,M x 't ....v...t With a Well-balanced squad, Young's track team provided stiff competition in every meet it was entered in this year. The turfmen under Coach Al Holmes, were surprisingly strong, especially the mile relay team. This quartet was among the best in the county. However, there was more than one thing which made the team so success- ful. In the field events many points were picked up, the pole-vaulters, high- jumpers, and the shot-putters being particularly outstanding. 41
