YOUNG'S BAND When Mr. Bryant Minot came from Albert Leonard in i934 to take charge of the then junior high, school band, it had only forty members and possessed only a hundred dollars Worth of equipment. Since then the band has increased to seventy-five members and has acquired a thousand dollars Worth of fine band equipment. ln l94O as a junior high school band, it received a one rating in the state finals and in l94l received a two rating in the senior high competition although our school did not yet have a senior class. We were Well represented in the solo events at Atlantic City by our band members who reached the finals. Our band has never missed a football game and in the first Hyde Park game they were rained out and were forced to make the trip twice. No small part of the band's success is owed to the active Band Mother's Club, which has Worked hard to raise funds for uniforms, instruments and has contributed much in the Way of moral support. 34

'sh Q FOOTBALL TEAM . s..f-..o.:- ln its first year of W.l.A.A. competition, the Young football team, under the coaching of Mr. Harold McPhee and the captaincy of George Straehle, put up a stiff fight in every game. Losing the first encounter to Davis' more experienced squad, and tying Yonkers Central in the next game, the Young gridsters improved each time until they defeated the Hyde Park team. The traditional Thanksgiving Day game with Albert Leonard ended in a thrilling tie. While the team functioned like a machine at all times, the outstanding playing of lack Dempsey, fullback, and Bill Lysaght, tackle, deserves mention. The outlook for the Green and White for next year is very bright. 36
