STUDENT ORGANIZATION Perhaps the most important single group of any high school is its student government. The Young School, with its Student Organization, is no exception. It consists of all students who pay dues and is governed by elected officers and two representatives from each homeroom. The S.O. in its first year was faced with the difficult task of Writing a constitution and getting established financially. The Student Organization offered reduced rates to sports events and a subscription to the Castle Courier. Ably presided over by lack Dempsey, the first year of the Young S.O. was a successful one. 33

THE CORN HARVEST OF 1942 The first Senior plays, presented on Iune 9, provided a full night in the way of dramatic entertainment for all in attendance. One play entitled Those Were the Days, using the present for a setting, tells the story of a rather strict father whose discipline was cracked by the untimely entrance of ct school girl sweetheart. The parts were all realistically brought to life and the comedy was well received. The second play had the gay nineties as a background and was drama- tically called Fireman Save My Child. This tear jerking melodrama portrays a fragile, downtrodden flower, rescued from the clutches of the deep dark villain by the upright noble hero. With these two dramatic presentations as a precedent the future classes can look forward to some entertaining plays at the termination of their school year. 32

YOUNG'S BAND When Mr. Bryant Minot came from Albert Leonard in i934 to take charge of the then junior high, school band, it had only forty members and possessed only a hundred dollars Worth of equipment. Since then the band has increased to seventy-five members and has acquired a thousand dollars Worth of fine band equipment. ln l94O as a junior high school band, it received a one rating in the state finals and in l94l received a two rating in the senior high competition although our school did not yet have a senior class. We were Well represented in the solo events at Atlantic City by our band members who reached the finals. Our band has never missed a football game and in the first Hyde Park game they were rained out and were forced to make the trip twice. No small part of the band's success is owed to the active Band Mother's Club, which has Worked hard to raise funds for uniforms, instruments and has contributed much in the Way of moral support. 34
