I 0W In face-lift during a one year overhaul period at the Dry Dock and Shipbuilding Company, Mobile, Alabama. During this overhaul period, the YOSEMITE underwent renovations to enable her to provide the most up-to-date repair services for the Navy's modern and increasingly complex destroyers. In April 1982, YOSEMITE welcomed aboard the first contingent of enlisted women as a part of the crew. Since then, the number of female crewmembers has grown to include nearly every rating present aboard YOSEMITE. 1983 was a busy year for the Busy Lady . In January, while deployed to tend ships at Norfolk, Virginia, orders were received for her to make preparations for an Indian Ocean Deploy- ment scheduled for the fall. From Norfolk, YOSEMITE participated in REDEX 83 in the Caribbean and remained for refresher training at the Fleet Training Group, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After a record breaking REFTRA conducted in GTMO, YOSEMITE returned to Mayport to commence the pre-deployment work up. The YOSEMITE, long called the Busy Lady , has lived up to her nickname. She has deployed often through the years whenever her services have been required. While homeported on the East Coast, she has tended ships in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, the North Atlantic and finally, the Indian Ocean. YOSEMITE began her Indian Ocean 'Deployment on 9 September 1983. She traveled halfway around the world to provide repair services to ships protecting our interests there and in the surrounding areas. YOSEMITE upheld her reputation of being the Best tender on the East Coast , and was proclaimed by many West Coast ships as the Best tender on either coast . YOSEMITE had a superb year and was acknow- ledged for her hard work by receiving the Battle Efficiency E , Engineering E , Damage Control Gold DC , Fleet Support Organization, Fleet Support Excellence and Navigation!Deck Seamanship Awards. The Busy Lady returned to Mayport, Florida, on 21 March 1984, with her head held high after completing one of her most successful deployments in 40 years of service. 3 ,nn ....,Y ,,,..... .. , D T VM lr,--5. , , , . .,.,. . , ..,.,.........,,.,..,,. f,,g,.v4... -R51 A gy , F , ,MM J V , g , V ,, ,NA V ' - A- -N4A-nu-Na-q.,...,,..,F.nn4zmiu-+.A.usa:.g,..ansfh.Lxag.sbn--Ja,-aa-f:.:4.w--:iss......1a.,u-..,.. ...:.:,-.-., ,....,.-,-.....-..-.1 ..........--u.....--1...a...........-,,.sL.-:-...,..,--.3..aa..,..:-.zi-.gsa. 01- --.:,.,
