' BMCM Joseph E. WEAVER Master Chief Boatswain's Mate Joseph E. Weaver reported aboard YOSEMITE on August 29, 1981 and assumed the billet of Command Master Chief in June 1982. This vital position demands involvement on all levels of policy making. His vast experience and mature judgement make his opinions extremely valuable. For the past year and a half, Master Chief Weaver has skillfully and ably filled the Command Master Chief billet aboard YOSEMITE. Master Chief Weaver was born on September 2, 1929, in Dayville, Connecticut. He first entered the Navy on July 19, 1948. He served in the Korean Conflict aboard the USS DEVICE IAM 2201, an Ocean Mine Sweeper, and aboard a PBR in River Division 543 during the Vietnam Conflict. Master Chief Weaver has had a distinguished career and has served his country and the Navy on ten different ships. His personal awards include the Bronze Star lwith Combat VJ, the Navy Commendation medal lwith Combat VJ, the Navy Achievement Medal lsecond awardl and the Good Conduct Medal fsixth awardj. 9

An ordained Baptist minister, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia, and the Master of Divinity degree with languages from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wade Forest, North Carolina. Chaplain Poe attended Naval Chaplain's School at Naval Education Training Center, Newport, Rhode Island prior to reporting to the USS YOSEMITE in June 1982. He is married to the former Jacqueline Littlejohn of Bluefield, West Virginia. They have one daughter, Almika and two sons, Ernest Jr., and Sean Michael.
