Good counsellors lack no clients” Shakespeare A Message to the Seniors Your years at Yorkville have, indeed, been historic ones! During the three years you have spent here, the emergence of many new nations and power struggles in some of the older nations have taken place. In our own country, we witnessed the election of the nation’s youngest President. And you and I were also unfortunate to see the assassination of that same man in whom the voters of the country had placed such confidence. Let the world go forth, he said in his Inaugural Address, to friend and foe alike that the torch is passed to a new generation. You are a part of that new generation who, having received the torch, must guard it lest its flame go out. The greatest tribute that can be paid to the memory of John Fitzgerald Kennedy is our dedication to make this country and the world a place in which all mankind may live together in harmony. May God give you the love, the determination and the strength to complete the task to which he was committed, and for which he died. Sincerely yours, Clementine Holmes , Settior Advisor Page 6

Reason and calm judgment, the qualities specially belonging to a leader ” Tacitus To the Graduates: I should like to take this opportunity to greet you and, at the same time, to wish you well in whatever you do after you leave Yorkville Vocational High School. For many of you, this will be the end of your formal schooling. May I urge you, however, to keep three major goals in mind. First, try by force of personality and behavior to serve as a good citizen of your city, your state, and your country. Second, continue to develop your mental abilities by reading good books, by listening to good music, by expanding your intellectual horizons. Third, make use of the training which has been given to you to become successful in your chosen career or profession. You will find that your service as an intelligent, well-employed citizen will give you the satisfaction and happiness that lead to a good life. Sincerely, Sherwood Friedman. r Page 5
