There is really a great deal ot Work connected with putting out an annual ot this size. First you have to have the data and other material to start it. Then it takes a lot ot Work on the part ot the statt to organize it the way they Want it. At last it is sent to the publishing company where it will be come pleted. We think the theine, which is a inovie, is very appropriate because both young and old enjoy inovies. We hope you will enjoy our annual as rnuch. Now, il you have read this tar please keep on. The car on the tront was picked tor the cover ot this years annual to illustrate all ot the good tiines we have had in our past years at YHS. buzzing around in the old jalopiesl We have tried with the help ot Mrs, Henning to put out a very interesting Annual. After all We were now sopho- mores and had freshmen to remind us of our own green years. Again dear old vacation time rolled around. When We came back to school the following year We were really proud after all now We were upperclassmenlll The pop concession at the basket- ball games kept us busy but little by little more money kept sifting in our treasury. All through the year We kept planning for the big event in the spring namely the Iunior-Senior Prom. This was also a lot of Work, but every- one had a Wonderful time when finally the big night arrived. Finally as I said before vacation comes again. Now we really have something to be proud of. This year We are seniors. Most of us finally made it, lf We thought We had been busy in the past, this year we really were surprised. Fluttering around the halls We see Yvonne trying to get the rest of the annual staff to get their assignments in on time. Although not as successful as the 47 season, the team was fighting all the way. Handicapped by two injuries early in the season, they nevertheless went on to capture 2nd place in the Fox Valley Conference, The team will lose seven players this year but despite this there will be excellent material left over for the 1949 season. Everyone wishes them luck in beating our record this year. Charles Dirst was acting captain of the year while Bill Beck was elected as honorary captain. SEPT. W. The Doctor Ha Dau hter The adventures and misadventures of Miss Tommy Billings, a small town junior miss, who has seen too many movies for her own and everyone else's good. Lovable, but with an overactive imagination, Tommy gets practically everyone in hot water. Her father, the doctor, her chum, Dodo, her sister, Flora Lee, the eccentric maid, Cleota, and the school teacher, Miss Thaxter, who is just crazy for culture, all are victims to Tommy's scheme to make everyone happy-whether they want to be or not. When the wealthy spinster, Miss Cassandra Thorn, pays the family a visit and Tommy decides an ancient romance should be revived, the complications that ensue almost teach her a lesson. Answering Lonely Heart advertisements, re-writing the school play, she has a busy time, and her family many anxious moments. Between acts we were entertained by Loretta Collman playing a piano solo, and Mildred Wicks singing a solo Sleepy Hollow Tune accompanied by Betty Todnem. We are also going to try and send our entire student council to Chicago to the convention in March. Other projects during the year have arisen but under the guidance of our capable officers the many other tasks were completed successfully. We are very proud to have in our school the President of the Kankakee district-Mary jo Trummel who was chosen at a meeting in Pontiac in the earlier part of the year. Our advisor was Miss Barra, and we elected Marian Hester as our chapter mother at the beginning of the year. Some of our projects were: selling barbeques at noon, selling cards, cake raffles and sending Christmas boxes overseas. The canopy at the gym door and doorman, Milo Olson, told the guests that the theme for this year was a nightclub called, Starlight Terrace . The first highlight of the evening, the dinner, was served by the Sophomore girls with Lee Hubbard the head-waiter, and Mary Io Trummel as hostess who showed the Iuniors and Seniors their places. Following the dinner there was a program consisting of numbers by the Tumbling Club, the Rockettes, and a solo by Mildred Wicks. The welcome speech was given by the Iunior class president, Dave Benoit, and responded to by the Senior class president, Lydia Reinboldt. The climax of the evening was the dance, accompanied by King Christian's orchestra. ATHLETIC BANQUET The athletic banquet is just what it implies, a free dinner for all of those who have participated in athletics during the year. All others interested may purchase tickets. ln writing a word picture of the event it would go as follows: I arrived at seven breathing hard for fear of being late only to be greeted by a crowd of people and hurrying waitresses. By seven-thirty we were sitting at our delightful dinner eating with all the manners we could possibly remember after careful instructions from our parents. Everyone seemed to be doing fine until the peas rolled off my fork and into my lap instead of my mouth. I wondered whose face was red then! The evening proceeded and speeches were made by our guest speaker, honoring our football and basketball players and captains. The awards were then given to all the players, managers, and cheer- leaders. The banquet is ended by the singing of the school loyalty led by the cheerleaders. For some it is a happy sight but for the graduating seniors, well, they aren't quite so happyl APRIL PETE The strains of the processional began. The April Fete of '48 was under way. The court consisting of Yvonne Perkins, Dick Ellis, lanice Bjelland, Ir. Sharp, lean Dickson, Charles Mighell, Mary I. MacEarland, Louie Greene, Mary E. Barton, and Ralph Shick, proceed from the stage to their places of honor at the back of the gymnasium. Charles Dirst, acting as Master of Ceremonies, announces the events of the gala evening. Some of the highlights are, the South American dances and the waltzes presented by the girls' T E. Classes. Now the hour everyone has been waiting for, Mr. Talbott comes to the center of the gym followed by Lois Cornils carrying the crown and boutonniere to face the court. The room is hushed as Mr. Talbott takes the crown and places it upon the head of Mary Ellen Barton, then the boutonniere and puts it on the coat lapel of Ralph Shick. The crowd bursts into thundering applause and the evening is ended. clmol Calendar AUGUST Aug 25 H S Regrstratron and Book Rental Aug 25 H S Regrstratron and Book Rental Aug 3l Teacher s Meetrng SEPTEMBER Sept Sept Sept Sept Sept Sept Sept Sept l 6 6 School Begrns Halt Day Sessron Labor Day No School Faculty Receptron Football Oswego There Football Sandwrch Here F H A Hayrrde Football Plano There P T A OCTOBER Oct Oc Oc Oc Oc Oc Oc Oc Oc Oc Oc l l 8 9 Magazrne Drlve Football Orland Park Here Football Plarntreld Here F H A Slumber Party Northwestern Dlvrsron l E A o School Football Oswego Here lrndrvrdual Prctures Serror Prctures Football Sandwrch There P T A F F A Banquet NOVEMBER Nov F ov Nov Nov Nov Nov Nov Nov Nov Freshman Tea Armrstrce Day No School Senror Class Play lt5 State School Board lleetrrtg Ch cago Basketball Pan Here Studert Councrl Kankakee l r rrct Convertr n at Pont ac Basketball O wego Ther 2h Thanksgrvrng Holrday lm chool P T A DECEMBER Dec 3 Baslfe ball Plarnfreld Here Dec 4 Basketball Sandwrch There Dec Dec Dec Dec Dec lU Basketball Newark There l7 Basketball Mrnooka Here 2l P A 27 lan 3 Chrrstrrras Holrdays 27 29 Holrclay Tournament at Yorkvrlle IANUARY CID CID CID GH CID GU CTU OH C111 7 Ba ketball Orland Park Here 8 Ba ketball We t Chrcago There Ba ketball Oswego Here End ot Semester Basketball Moo eheart Here 22 Conte ence Basketball Tournament at Yorkvrlle P T A Basketball Plarntreld There Basketball Batavra Here lil FEBRUARY Feb Feb Feb Feb Feb Feb Feb Ba ketball Newark Here 5 Basketball Plano There l Basketball Mrnooka There Kendall Co Teach r Meetrna No School l Basketball Orland Park There T T A 22 25 Drstrtct Basketball Tournament MARCH Mar 22 PTA Mar 25 2b Student Councrl State Conventron Mar 29 A serrrbly Program lrank Hopkrn APRIL Apr Apr Apr Apr lunror Class Pl y lB Le ter Vacdtrorr or ort Prograrr NAY l gy 1 Y flay May lfav llay rc r e tru lrnror Senror l rorrr P T A Sc nror Cla N ght Baccalaureate Z!
