However, after the nine characters began practicing every free period durf ing the day, every night, and each Sunday afternoon, the progress was remarkable. A visitor at night rehearsals would have been surprised to see various members of the cast and their director gleefully performing calisthenics, groaning under the muscle builder, turning cartwheels or building pyramids before practice and while waiting for cues. Hilarious laughter was often heard as the costumes were slowly gathered together. They were of old vintage, to say the least, and they had the cast in the aisles even before the play was put on. Set in a small country town, the poor English and vocabulary were another cause for merriment. The cast went around for weeks afterwards using ain't and yah , The only catastrophe occurred when Dr. Haggert went sprawling as a result of reclining too strenu ously in his swivel chair. The chair snapped off in its most vital spot. ln spite of happenings, The Late Christopher Bean ' was successfully presented November 9,
