Mr. Ray l.. Miller Trustee, 1951-1954 ADVISORY BOARD Mr. Warner Dickerson, Mr. Ray Miller, Mr. Rex Mahoney, and Mr. Herbert Fuson. Several years ago Mr. Ray Miller envisioned a beautiful new school to be situated on a rolling hillside east of our town. Our community was beginning to see the results of the building boom brought about by World War ll. Already, our school facilities were becoming more and more limited, our teachers were required to work under severe handicaps. Mr. Miller thought of the chil- dren from these homes who would make up the future student body of Yorktown School and knew that prompt action must be taken. He saw the need for a Sinking Fund, whereby additional tax money would be accumulated until the time of construction of the new school plant. Mr. Miller consulted with Mr. Gene Ham- ilton, Muncie architect, and a modernistic, streamlined new build- ing was sketched and blueprinted. At last, the dream was be- coming a reality! At this writing the building is well under way. The community is anxiously awaiting the time of completion, and although we Seniors will always have a place in our hearts for old Yorktown High, we, too, are looking forward to Oper- ation, Moving Day. N Mr. Hubert lBobl Parkinson Trustee, 1955-1959

DEDICATION To you, Old Yorktown High, we dedicate this book, the last and supreme efforts of the Class of '55. For many years, you have suffered the pain of repair and remodeling, always hoping that the facelifting process would hide the fact that you were no longer adequate. Each year, you sought desparately to conceal the truth from prying eyes-and yet, secretly you knew, you could no longer face the onslaught of pupils that each term advanced upon you in ever increasing numbers! Relentlessly, they surged up and down your aisles, they pushed and iostled in the halls, until, at last you admitted to any and all who were willing to listen, l'm through,--l'm too old, -I must yield to someone younger and stronger than l. Then, there came an overwhelming feeling of relief. You had given the responsibility to the community and now it was up to the people of Mt. Pleasant Township to sponsor your successor. Yes, Old Building, you are being replaced. The students of Yorktown are looking forward to a wonderful future in a new, up-to-date building. But, in the hearts of the people of this com- munity, you, who have housed our hopes and dreams, and am- bitions, will always be remembered and loved.
