Mr. Ralph Heath, Principal A.B. and M.A.-l.U. and Ball State To the Seniors: You have come to the end of your formal public school education. But in truth you are iust beginning to venture into life's many experiences. The outcome of these experiences, whether it be good or bad, will be greatly determined by what you have learned in school. ln spite of the many interesting and not infrequent excursions upon fascinating by-paths, you have really learned a lot. Looking back you will be inclined to believe that the most important thing you learned was to appraise and evaluate your ignorance. You came to school with the firm conviction that the world was your oyster, and it took you the better part of four years to find out that no oyster is of much value unless and until you master the art of opening it. It is hoped that most of you have emerged from school with something of the spirit of humility. You are iust beginning to know what you didn't know. That, on the whole, is a rather healthy state of mind for young people going out into the workaday world. Remember too that there is no short cut to learning and efficiency. Learning should be as long as life itself. It took God one hundred years to make the sturdy oak but just two months to make a squash. Ralph Heath Principal 1955 Served on I.H.S.A.A. Board of Control in 1951
