Ball State As We ONCE WER THE HISTORY AND LEADERS OF QUR CLASS 7 ln September, l943, forty-three eager freshmen stepped into Y.H.S. with high hopes for the coming years. Our snazzy class officers were Dick King, president: Lois Ann Payne, vice-presidentp Donna Atwell, secretaryp and Keith Morrison, treasurer. We were guided by Mrs. Bright Kimmel and Mrs. Bernice Sigler, who kept us well in hand and ushered us safely into our sophomore year. As sophomores, a little more accustomed to high school life, we were glad that the grind of the first year was be- hind usp and looking forward to the coming year, we or- dered our class rings and elected all girl officers. The ladies were none other than Reva Curtis, president: Mary Louise flileynoldsl Manring, vice-president, Virginia Miller, secretary: and Donna Atwell, treasurer. Mrs. Kimmel and Mrs. Marie Dice were our sponsors. 1945 found us filing into Y.H.S. again, this time as juniors. We turned social and presented a semi-formal dance, The Snow Ball, and played hosts to the seniors at Mounds State Park, where everyone had fun. Our class officers this year were Reva Curtis, president: Iim Watkins, vice-presidentg Lois Ann Payne, secretary: and Harold Byerly, treasurer. After two and three years of sponsor- ship, Mrs. Dice and Mrs. Kimmel knew us well enough to be glad to hand our leadership over to Mrs. Mayro Porter and Mr. Merle Swanger for our fourth and final year. Seniors at last!! Forty of us will march up to the plat- form April 30, in our white caps and gowns, to receive our diplomas that we have worked for these twelve years past. This year is highlighted by our play, The Daffy Dills, presented October 18. Our class officers were all from the weaker sex or in other words the following boys: lim Watkins, president, Dick King, vice-president: Norman Dragoo, secretary, and Harold Byerly, treasurer. Yes, school is over with a .success that could not have been accomplished without the 7-guidance of our faculty. Under the direction of Mrs. Hotherr, the library keeps the students and faculty up on current events and history too. First step to major operations can sometimes be seen in Mrs. Henkle's Biology class, when stu- dents are dissecting insects. In the office machine class you hear the clicking, clacking of type- Writers, runnin g oi all the ma- chines, and the oh's and ah's of the students as they correct the stencil typing. You see the stu- dents and Mr. Swanger hurrying around to get the tests and school paper out on time. lf you should happen to pass the Home Ec. room during one of several periods each day, you would find some of Americas tu- ture housewives and homemakers slaving away over hot stoves or struggling with some unidentified article of Wearing apparel. Under the direction of Mrs. Mari- etta Sutton, these girls hoping to achieve the body beautiful, put a lot of effort and enthusiasm into volleyball, basketball, tumbling, and all of the various other activi- ties in which they participate. Which end ot the hammer do you use? Many questions such as these besiege lohn Stone as he endeavors to make carpenters and builders of the male population of Y.H.S. T B ATEN libfstltft FUEL What Happened in l492'? ln 1776? In l917? Such questions as these are plied to students in Room 9 daily. But don't think his- tory students live in the past, be- cause they study history from the beginning of time until this very day. That is What makes history a subject of interest. This scene is typical ot what happens every time a bell rings in Y.H.S. Some people run up the ramps and others run down, with the re sult that you have some people in the middle who get no place fast. Still, it's lots ot fun. Any day from ll:U5 until l2:OO, you Will find the seniors learning all about the body and how it works. Under the guidance ot Ed May, they study everything from clavicles to vitamins and all the way back. l A FEW This picture could easily be titled lnterest. Iudging from their expressions, it must have been an exciting ball game. Oh, now please don't think this is a typical senior picture. This just happened to be one of our more relaxed moments at a class meeting. Don't be alarmed. Nothing ser- ious is happening., This is just one of the action scenes taken from the senior play. at f WINFGRM L, SHOTS My, how studious you look. Mr . Lester's fourth grade boys and girls probably always have their lessons. t These anxious boys and girls are what keep the cafeteria laolies so busy. Doesn't it look inviting? Yell EEEOOWW Tigers cheer as Yorktown downs the Royerton Redbirds in the first of play since the County Tournament when Yorktown downed the Redbirds in an action packed final game in Muncie Field House. Royerton, seeking revenge, ,invaded the Tiger gymnasium, hoping to prove that York- town was unworthy of the title, County Champs. But, Yorktown stayed true to form and downed the Redbirds 42 to 34. This time the Tigers made it stick and proved their right to serve as county champions for 1947. team, so fight 'em, fight 'em, fight 'em, This was a familiar ring to any Tiger fan seeing Yorktown in action.
