PAGESIX THEYHSBROADCASTER SPORTS BASKETBAI L Mr Reeves gave the tall for the basketball players and all who were players or had even seen a basketball was to come out A total of about 38 came out for the game of bas ketball Wlth them the old players of last year and the year before and also some xery good new mateual whrch was soon to become very xaluable to old Y H S In the second vseel of October the call was rssued come all who may because we had a tou h game the frrst one That left us about 8 good practrce mghts to whrp a team strong enough to beat the toughest team ln the county But we went out on the floor determrned to wm no matter mf the odds were agalnst us we dldnt mmd a lxttle thrng lrke that Harrrson came ox er to beat us and I dont mean maybe They d1d rt too Course we thought we had somethmg to say, but we drdnt She was a game and I dont mean maybe It was any bodys game t1ll the last two or three mmutes then they took her mto camp to the tune of 24 to 22 But that never hurt us any made us frght Just that much harder rn the next frame at Cadxz whrch we took over to the tune of 41 to 9 Then came Gaston whom we took m to camp also to the tune of 32 to 75 Then came Mllldl6t0WH xery tough boys who thought we couldn t beat them but ln an overtlme game we took them mto camp to the score of 26 to 25 Boy she was a tlu'1ller Then came the game of the year Mt Summlt Boy they were as tough as you get them But we rolled them to the tune of 26 to 22 after we had stzug gled and hauled pulled for 32 mmutes of real basketball Then came Cowan whom we lrked to beat and beat them as badly as we could We beat them 48 to 34 Then came our old rlval Eaton W blew up a good deal and lost to them by the score of 21 to 24 1n then' favor That took all the lrfe out of the team for a whrle ThlS was tough medrcme but we took lt wlth a determmatlon to beat them rf lt took us to dooms day to do so Next game we made up for rt though bv beatlng DeSoto 43 to 10 Then came a team who they sald was as tough as you get them We played wrth two regu lars off and beat them 27 to 17 on therr floor at that Next on the program was Sulphur Sprmgs We wanted to heat them and we d1d the score was 33 to 22 rn our favor Then the oldest rrval of them all came along Dalevrlle whrch after a last half rally we took them to the bottom of the score after a hard fought game llke we always hare wrth them We drdnt do so well ln xt as all of you know but we d1d the best we r-ould lost 2 out of 3 games played That hurt some of us m fact all of us but that just put the old flght ln us and we came back frghtmg hard and flgl-tmg harder than we had ever fought We took Cowan over the coals by a score of 57 to A1 Eaton came next and we decrtled to put them where we had wanted them for three or four years, on the bottom part of the score at score of 48 to 19 That made: us feel fme Then poor old DeSoto whom we had beaten four times thrs year thls tlme to the score of 75 to 20 'lhen came Irankton 74 to 91 Then came Cadlz the town of brlght lrghts we covered them ln a score of 34 to 18 We set out to prove to them thu were badly mlstaken Score 31 to 19 Then came Dalevrlle the last game of the year whrch we took or er wrthout muth trouble that IS ln tht last half We beat them 33 to 16 went to town rn our last game Elndlng up ruth 16 won and 9 lost rn the scheduled frames a percent of 888 leadrng the county Ill pornts An ax er age of over 57 ports to a game We went 1nto the tournament XVll,h the deter mrnatlon to vun but d1d not do so well as expected Not our fault or any body elses we couldnt hlt and when you can t there rs no use trymg to play bfrll Setms that Yorktown was not a tournanu nt team but a schedule team Wt drl the best we could all the trme althougn some tlrnes we saw after the game was over what we had not done and what we could have done On the whole rt was a fme year both for the coach and the team GLEASON HODSON NEXT YEAR S CH XNCES IN BASKETBALL So now after tellxng you about last years games vse should say somethmg about next year s prospects You know we have 5 regulars to grad uate Wrrght Mann fnot Jack?
