PAGETWO THEY.H.S.BROADCASTER JUNIOR CLASS YORKTOWN HIGH SCHOOL 1931 Class Hlstory Hello everybody this 1S Station 1 H S broadcastm all the great happenings and dorngs of thls great Senior Class of 1931 who wrll leave thrs school behind to take up new work Thls class started in as freshmer in 1927 and were called green and fresh when they entered but proved to be quite a good straight forward bunch of young men and women They came to the Y H S from Sycamore Cammack and Yorktown to work for their own good not to pass away time as they would have done in other re spects There were 43 freshmen enroll ed Estel Plummer Merlm Cox Jean Workmen Grace Borum baye Rrchmen Elrzabeth Shanefelt Lula Weaver Hur tha Donovan Merrrl Pennybacker Beat rrce Keely Irene Donai an Byron Col lrns Evelyn Brown Elnora Applegate Kenneth Burke Harold Turner Lyndall Kathryn Kytchen Edith McKinley Mary Myers Crystal Walker Harold Funder burg Marjorie Donavan Doris Lee George Goodpaster Lydia Coulter Mar un Gleason John Mitchell Cleason Hod son Luclle Johnson Woodrow Parklson Chester Justice Edna Kilgore Cleo Snodgrass Marcellus Wright Farrre Long Dale Mann and Paul Duncan When the Sophomore year rolled around there were onlv 32 present when the roll was called they either had dropped out or moved to drfferent schools The following are the ones that came up missing Lula Weaver Hurtha Donavan Alvin Eden Mildred Kirtley Kathryn Kytchen Edith M Kmley Mary Myers Crystal Walker Edna Krlgore and Dorrs Lee The remarnrng group had a good trme studying trying' to pull through that year with quite good re sults The Junior Oh' Boy' what a feat it was to become one and to look down on those green freshmen and to be able to help rmtxate them but that year there were still fewer rn the class with the dropprng out of Elizabeth Shanne felt Faye Rrchman Estelle Plummer Irene Donavan Byron Collins Evelyn Brown Kenneth Burk Elnora Apple gate There were three new ones enter d Florence Kllgore Opal Carter and Helen Noble making the total of Juniors 27 During the Junior year we put on the play Aaron Boggs Freshman whrch was a success and some pictures shows and at the close of the sclhool gave the Semors a trip to Turkey Run State Park Then the 4th year and last year for those Freshmen of 1927 28 became the Semors with only 21 Seniors including four new ones Carl Campbell Belford Mrller Tom Nelson and Marietta Con way The following, Semors will gradu ate thrs year Tom Nelson Peck Mrl ler Carl Campbell Marvm Gleason Marietta Conway Lydia Coulter Flor ence Kilgore Chester Justice Farrre Helen Noble Gleason Hodson Woodrow Parkrson Dale Mann Lucrle Johnson Marcellus Wright and Paul Duncan wrth with the following' pupils lacking credits to do so Jean Workman and Merlin Cox During thls year we put on the play Alabama Bound But we still hold the record of havrng the smallest number of students on the honor roll during the four vears of high school We wrll now sign off at 3 00 P M Central Standard Time from statron Y H S PAUL DUNC KN Y CALENDAR SCHOOL EVENTS 1931 32 Frrday April 10-Count3 Oratorical Contest Tuesday Wednesday April 1415 Ex amrnatrons DWednesday Aprrl 15-Semor Class RY Thursday Friday Ap1'1l16 17-Junror Semors Trip Sunday Aprrl19 Baccalaureate Monday April 20-Alumm Banquet Tuesday Apr1l21 Commencement The Semors You know all the Semors but you don t know how hard they have worked There were just five seniors to get serv ice sweaters all these bo5s have worked hard as well as the rest of the team and really deserve credrt for what they have done To begrn there is John Mitchell who has played basketball four years and three years on the first team Then there rs Dale Mann who got two stripes Gleason Hodson a veteran has three stripes Merlm Cox has played four years Then last comes Cell Wright a four year man All of these boys have worked hard m basketball and deserve a lot of credit and dont think that we aren t sorrv to have them leave us So to you Semors WE KTHE SCHOOLJ want to wrsh you the best of success and happmess Napoleon made a few timely remarks when they faded from the picture Not that we are in the same class but now the Broadcaster Staff must shed a tear on leaving We can think of many thmgs to say rt has been a good year the class of 1931 has been a great class the team has been a real team the plays have all been suc cesses and when we think of all these things and try to say good bye to tmem usrng mere words IS beyond us All year we have looked toward the last day of school as convrct No 347 looks forward to the end of hrs sentence That last day is close at hand but in stead of three cheers we are sure all the Semors feel only regret Before we break down and cry upon the nearest shoulder the Broadcaster staff to all the Semors extend their wrshes for a most successful and nappy lrfe and to all its fellow students says So long' Sang untrl another year CARL CAMPBELL , .1 ' ' ' ' tc - n 1 A ' .
