As a result of Coach Bifano ' s strictly organized workouts and tough condition- ing schedule, the team dis- played style and form far superior to most other com- petitors. This year ' s team also outdid its opponents in the friendliness and enthusiasm exuded at every meet and in practice as well. Over half the team is now looking forward to the sectional meets coming up where they will continue to perform on their excellent level of competition. Row 1: Charleen Bruckner. The team ' s phenomenal spiking was com- plemented by the outstanding setting of Sue Weksel. The problems this year ' s soccer team encountered were physical facilities rather than ability. Despite miserable field conditions, they had one of their best records in many years, (5-8-3). They went international acquiring the able services of Fabio Verlato who con- tributed immensely. With many excellent Junior players returning, next year should be an outstanding year for soccer at Yorktown. J.V. The Varsity Field Hockey Team ' s record, 2-8-4, reflects neither their skill nor the time spent in front of their opponent ' s goal but the number of times that the ball went over or around the goal. 7ield Service — ?abw Verb to What mean? . . . What mean?! It is a question that I kept repeating to myselt and to the people around me especially during the first few months of this great year in the United States. Everything was new, different, and interesting. I wanted to know and to learn, but without you — my friends, fellow students, and dear, patient teachers — without your help I could not have done it. So now, I would like to say Thank you to everybody, especially to my host family and to AFS, and, believe me. I am really sincere. AFS taught me a lot. I learned to live with the different, the new, the unexpected: drawing from all cultures, resolving inevitable problems in a constructive manner and overcoming the fear of change by living in a different country and community with a new family. My experience with AFS proved to me: Don ' t worry, Fabio, e ven in the worst situa- tions, you will always find a friend with whom you can work and enjoy yourself. And, finally, let me tell you, dear friends: Yorktown was, for me, like a first love: UNFORGETTABLE.
