Captain M. M. Gantar Captain Mark M. GANTAR was horn in North Chicago, Illinois and graduated from Northwestern University in 1940. While at Northwestern he completed four years of NROTC and was commissioned an Ensign in the Naval Reserve. During World War H he served on three destroyers seeing duty and action in the A- leutians, the Atlantic, and the Western Pacific. After the war he completed an ordnance post graduate caurse at the U.S. Naval Academy. During the Korean War he was the Gunnery Officer of the USS TOLEDO. He has com- manded the destroyer escort USS ROBERT E. PEARY and the destroyer USS HOPEWELL. He served as Gunnery Officer on the staff of Commander Cruiser Destroyer Force Pacific Fleet and as Ordnance Superintendent at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Following a tour as Commander of Destroyer Division TWO EIETY THREE, Captain Gantar reported as Chief of Staff to Commander Carrier Division NINETEEN. Captain Gantar is married to the former Miss Marguerte Bentz of Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

p Rear Admiral james O. Cobb James Outterson Cobb was born in Albany, New York in 1911. He entered the Naval service asa Seaman apprentice in January 1927. After serving for two and a half years as an enlisted man, during which time he attained the rate of Fireman 3fc, he entered the U. S. Naval Academy, and upon graduation in June 1933 was commissioned Ensign in the United States Navy. After graduation, Ensign Cobb was assigned to the USS COLQRADO where he served in the Gunnery, Engineering and Communication Departments. In February 1936, he was ordered to the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, for flight training and was designated Naval Aviator in March 1937. During'World War II, he served in Patrol Squadrons SIX and ELEVEN and participated in thet battlefof Midway and subsequent operations in the Central and South Pacific. Here his squadronareceived the Presidential Unit Citation, and he, the Distinguished Flying Cross. This was followed by a year as Commanding Qfficer of Patrol Squadron NINETY-UNE, with operations in the 'Solomon Islands Campaign, mostly in Black Cat night attack opera- tions, for which his squadron was awarded the Navy Unit Citation. , Captain Cobb served as Commanding Officer of the USS YORKTOWN from September 1957 until August of 1953. Upon completion of this duty he returned to the Pentagon as Deputy Secretary to the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In April 19,61 he reported as Chief of Staff and Aide to Commander Carrier Division FIVE. Rear Admiral Cobb relieved Rear Admiral W. A. Stuart as Commander Carrier Division NINETEEN on 5 August 1961 in Pearl Harbor. I W P-wavwmw Z P-4 Q
