Commander Nyburg was born in Valleio, California, the son of a retired naval officer. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and received his commission as an Ensign on December I9, I9-4I. During his career he has been awarded the Bronze Star with Combat V as well as various theater and service awards. From February I952 to July l953, the Commander assisted in development of a production analysis and central technique, which has sub- sequently been adopted by a large segment of U.S. industry, as well as all three branches of the military, on the line of balance reporting and analysis system. The commander and his wife maintain their residence in San Jose, California, with their six children. He assumed the role as Executive Officer of the YORKTOWN in April I96O. NYBURG Commander McDowell was born in Los Angeles, Calif- ornia, in July I9I8. He graduated from Occidental College, Los Angeles, with his Bachelors degree in l94O, and was commissioned an Ensign in ApriIII94I at Pensacola, Florida. Interrupting his naval career Commander McDowell returned to school at Stanford University and received his Masters degree in personnel administration. He also attended the Navy General Line School. The Commander has been awarded the America Defense ribbon, Pacific Campaign and Asiatic Campaign ribbons, China Service, Korean Service, and Seventh Fleet Campaign medals. CAPTAIN CHARLES E. GIBSON Captain Bauer graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and was commissioned an Ensign on June 6, I935. He then reported for his first duty aboard the old USS RANGER for twoiand a half years. During the early part of World War II he served in squadrons aboard the carriers LEXING- TON, SARATOGA, and ENTERPRISE. Years later, as Ex- ecutive OFficer of the BON HOMME RICHARD, he saw extensiveiaction in the Korean War. Captain Bauer has been awarded the Navy Cross, the Distinguished Flying Cross, several air medals and the Bronze Star with Combat V . Prior to relieving Captain Bedell as Commanding Of- ficer of the YORKTOWN in June I959 he was Captain of the USS ORCA. He served as the Commanding Officer of the Fighting Lady from .lune I959 until May l960. Captain Gibson was born in Marysville, Ohio, in I9I4. He entered the U.S. Naval Academy in June l933, and was commissioned Ensign on June 2, I937. His first duty assignment was on the USS LEXINGTON where he served until June I939, before reporting for flight training at NAS Pensacola, Florida. From June I943 to June 1945 Captain Gibson attended post graduate school at the Naval Academy and California Institute of Technology. At CIT he was awarded Master of Science and Aeronautical Engineering degrees. He has also attended the Armed Forces Staff College, and the National War College. Captain Gibson and his wife now maintain their residence in Long Beach, California.
