The fourth and present YORKTOWN QCV-lOl, commissioned in l943, enhanced the fame of her predeces- sor and won the name of the Fighting Lady . Her planes participated in attacks on the Marianas, Marshall Islands, New Guinea, Carolines, Okinawa, lwo Jima, Philippines, Indo China and finally on the Japanese homeland. With the end of the war the Fighting Lady took on a new iob of aid and assistance. During Operation Magic Carpet she made three trips from the Far East and returned l0,000 fighting men to their families. After a short rest in the reserve fleet she was redesignated CVA-l0 and went to Korea to stop the threat of Communism. Her assistance was needed again during the evacuation of the Tachen Islands in the Formosa Strait. ln l953 the YORKTOWN was given a new hurricane bow and an angled deck which increased her capabilities as an attack carrier, promoting faster and safer operations. ln l957 the Lady received the title she bears today, CVS-lO. As a support carrier she spearheads the Hunter-Killer Task Force in the Seventh Fleet and is always on call when an emergency arises. The men of today's TOWN continue to make her the Navy's toughest Fighting Lady . W YYY. -.47 Y V A YQTY, ..,, -We -..i.,.. , ,,,.,,,,,, ,, W -- YORK-
