Each man .is aware of the part he plays, and teamwork is not just a word here, it ispreal. Ask each man on the LADY to describe air-ops and you will recieve a thousand different answers. Few are capable of grasping the entire scene. The Engineers see air-ops as a time of critical labor. Engines and boilers must be meticulously adjusted to bring the LADY to exacting speeds so that there will be the proper wind across the deck for the launch and recovery of aircraft. For the Hight deck crews, it is a time when arresting gear and catapults must be adjusted to fine tolerances to insure proper operation. For the plane captains, it is a time for last minute repairs, adjustments, and inspection prior to the launch. In Combat Information Center, they see air-ops on their radar scopes as a series of dots that must be guided to their destination and then returned to the ship. Everywhere the margin for error is nil. Everyone must know and do his job well. Human life may be at stake at anytime.
