The Yorktown primped and prepared from the United States to Hawaii to be ready for the annual Operational Readiness Inspection. Everything from man overboard drills to actual air operations was thrown at the LADY in a hectic forty eight hour period. Full cooperation and a complete detailed knowledge of each man's job was required. When the operation was over, the FIGHTING LADY had compiled the highest mark ever given a CVA in a similar inspection. Record times were made in several of the required drills, and the LADY'S men had given her an indication of the way they were capable of performing. Some of us would have enjoyed using one of the inspectors for the man overboard dummy. 238 I I 1. 1 , il lf ll K1 Fa ,a V 4 I if ll l lil fl 1 l H sf E 6 al 3 All hands in battle dress for general quarters. l I We simulated so Well that the inspector could almost smell I the smoke.
