amor ruifie November 7, 1956 heralded a record breaking crash program to get the York- town underway on what was dubbed by the Air Group as the Rumor Cruise . Given only forty-eight hours to be prepared for deployment, the LADY was readied on time for her secret mission. Mountains of supplies, airplanes, and nearly 3,000 men were aboard and ready for any course they might be required to take. Rumors flew thick, Far East, Near East. Each trouble spot of the world was imagined as a possible destination. Conducting carrier qualification operations enroute to Hawaii, the Yorktown was ready for front line action upon her arrival. Her men had proved themselves an effective team ready for action. But instead of going on, the LADY brought her men back to Alameda for Christmas to await later deplopment, and to further prepare for the task of Far East Patrol. f 5 . .gg ...
