Commander Carlton H. Clark, U.S.N. Executive Officer Commander Carlton H. Clark became the LADY's Executive Officer in January of 1957. Before entering the Navy in 1939, Commander Clark was a student at Western Kentucky State College. Upon completion of Hight training, he joined VP-23. In 1941, he was transfered to VP-11 Where he Won one of the highest Naval honors, the Navy Cross, for participating in a series of hazardous missions during the battle of the Soloman Islands. Commander Clark spotted the Japanese Fourth Fleet steaming to attack. Shortly after radioing the enemy's position, his plane was shot down and he Was taken prisoner. Commander Clark spent the remainder of the War as a prisoner of war, undergoing daily interrogation and frequent heating. For his courageous behavior, he was awarded the Legion of Merit. in 1948 he shifted to carrier aviation With VF-72 as Executive Officer, and later as Commanding Officer. He then served on the staff of Commander Air Force Atlantic Fleet, and the staff of the Chief of Naval Air Training. Next he was assigned as Commanding Officer of Air Group Six, and prior to ioining the LADY he served as Training Officer for the Chief of Naval Air Training.
